For what it's worth, I have NOT yet had this issue on my 27" Display, which arrived about 10 days ago.

It's been connected to a 17" i5 MBP.

Mine has the same issue. Audio stops working when I wake the computer up, and the only way I can fix it is to reconnect all three cables. Lame.

I need a permanent fix for this. :/

MY audio has cut out twice in about 4 weeks. Not as bad as others but it does happen. I hope a fix comes soon, spending $1000 for a monitor that does not work as advertised is a joke.

Glad to hear some dont have the issue though.

I am also getting the same sound cut-out and lagged sound controls as everyone else when I hook my 27" Cinema Display to either my 2008 Mac Pro (with newly installed 5770 card) or my mid-2009 13" Macbook Pro. It seems to happen about twice a week and is very annoying. Again, as with most people it seems to be associated with sleeping the Mac, as after I reboot it always come back on working properly. This should not be such a common problem for a $1000 monitor.

The few people I know with this monitor are all experiencing this problem (all are using USB audio and not MDP). It would be nice if MacRumors would highlight this problem on their main page to light a little bit of a fire under Apple's effort (much like they did with the decreased SATA speed when the mid-2009 MBPs came out and Apple released a patch within a week or so).

I have had this issue twice with my 27" Cinema Display that I've had for about a month. It's connected to a 2010 Mac Pro, with the audio using the mini display port from the Radeon 5870. Unplugging both the USB and mini display port, and then reconnecting them, restores sound.

i realized today that when the sound starts acting up, for some reason i get about 1/2 the regular frame rates in games. it must have some hardware loop running

Hi All,

I know its been a while since I have posted to this forum, but that is because my problems with the ACD have gone away. The only thing I can attribute to the now absence of the problem, is the change in temperature of the room. Generally when the room is warm/humid I ran into problems and sound would go out after of few hours of being on. Now, that I have it in an air-conditioned room I can leave it on for days with no problems at all. Maybe, if people are running into this problem, make sure your MBP is well ventilated. That may help.

Hey guys, im using the 27" ACD with my 2009 macbook for almost 2 weeks.
had the sounds issues since day one.
everytime i close the macbook lid or make it go to sleep the sound on the ACD stops, another thing that go's along with the problem is that when im pressing the +/- volume the OSD legs to appear and it take a few second until i see it, of course im not hearing no beeping sounds cause the sounds is dead.

when i go to preferences/sound menu i get this color wheel that happens when the machine is thinking or stuck...

I love my screen but i Hate this sound issue so much, btw i have the latest updates.

im from israel so it's not only screens from the US having this issue.

hope apple will have a new fix up for us!

peace.

I too have just experienced the sound problem for the first time on a late 2009 MBP and 27" ACD. I replaced the 24" display with the 27" ACD about 3 weeks ago as I was having problems with the screen flashing to black on the 24" model.

The slightly concerning thing is that this issue seems similar to the 24" blackout issue in that several people had the blackout issue, (there is a discussion on the Apple Support pages that started since the product was launched http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1902288&start=135&tstart=0 ) people were calling AppleCare to report the problem but Apple claimed to not know about it. Everyone was hoping for a software fix but it didn't come and Apple couldn't identify the problem.

I'm hoping the sound problem is a much simpler issue to identify and a fix is imminent. Although I do feel that I have been here before, it's a great display otherwise.

The other thing I've noticed is that in normal use when the sound is working some sounds come from the MBP speakers for example, emptying trash, mail bongs and swoosh but volume pips, music etc comes from ACD speakers. Anyone else have this?

I am having the sound cut-out problem - BUT ON MY 24" Apple screen - strangely it seems to occur once I have watched something on YouTube??

Why lie?

So, after having the sound issues on my 27", I figured I should get AppleCare to make sure it gets fix/replaced someday.

So, I call AC to get on record as reporting this problem and the agent LIED!

"Sir, this is not a known problem. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps".

WTF?!

I called AppleCare, I had to reset the pram and the SMC. I got a reference number and I guess from what I have read on this forum, I'm going to need to call them back.

Hopefully if enough of us log a call with the same issue it will trigger it being looked into by Apple.

I'm calling first thing in the morning. This is REALLLLLLLLLLLY getting frustrating. It should NEVER have happened.

do you guys notice a negative system performance with this problem too? when i'm using the display speakers i get like 50% of the regular frame rates in steam games

hey guys,
after updating to 10.6.5 my MacPro slept overnight and upon waking this morning the sound worked fine.

hoping they fixed it in this latest update.

anyone else see the same thing?

I had this issue with mine and phoned up Apple support the day it happened and had an engineer in regular phone and mail contact, after about a month of this I was offered a replacement.

It arrived today and seems to have no problems as yet (the previous monitor showed issues overnight)

been a few days now, still running strong. two overnight and several daily sleeps and it's still not having any issues.

cool

It pains me to have to write this but I awoke my mac from sleep this morning only to find that the no sound (and sluggish volume control) bug has hit again. This is bad news since I upgraded to 10.6.5 a few days ago when the patch was first released. Looks like this latest MAC OS X patch did not fix the problem.

I am getting worried that Apple will never acknowledge this problem and it will never get fixed (just like reports of the blackouts people experienced with the 24" CD). Anyone know how to get this story posted on the main MacRumors page?

problem here too,… 2,53Ghz MacBook Pro (late 2008 model)…

Called apple 3 times and everytime they tell me, "strange, never heard this before". They're looking into it, but I never get a response. Really annoying.

And totally not what I expected of a premium brand like apple. Too bad dell doesn't have a 27" with a webcam.
