That's what she says. Let's keep an eye on this and see where she is in another year.

No it's not what she says. Last year she was briefly in the news as the heaviest mother to give birth to triplets at 40 stone, she now weighs under 30. Now while she is vastly overweight she is making some effort. If in the U.K. she was middle class she'd be able to pay for gastric banding or similar (in fact she'd get one free on the NHS if she knew who to ask the right questions of ). I imagine a lot of people see this as a lack of will power or ignorance or laziness or whatever, I see it as another example of how people are crushed in this world for the major crime of being different (ring any bells? ),some eat too much some eat too little others find solace in drugs (especially alcohol ) some go berserk and slay people at random. Now it may seem simplistic but I would have thought having some empathy and expending some effort on finding why this type of behaviour happens and doing something to help would be better than pointing fingers and laughing at this gross deviation from the norm. It's only my experience but it seems to me that those that are crushed by the system are those that have the most humanity./rant over/

P.S. the reason I'm so critical of the Scum is their long history of lying, they truly are the high point of scurrilous gutter journalism, ask anyone from Liverpool.

Umm... something tells me she's not exactly being truthful about what she eats though.

What is that supposed to mean? Due to the Sun's slant on her story, you've decided she's dishonest?

Umm... given her photo, I don't believe she's being entirely truthful about her eating habits. Has nothing to do with the Sun.

Oh ok, so you're judging her character by what's written in the sun, and what she looks like.

Given the choice between believing a woman I've never heard of and know nothing about and anything printed in the Scum I'm going with the woman.

Some perspective, at last.

To be honest, I think you have to be pretty desperate to quote an article from the Sun. It isn't worth toilet paper.

Umm...yeah. Judging by how she looks, I'd say she doesn't exactly have it together as far as her health and eating habits are concerned. If you want to argue with me about that, fine- go ahead. But I can't help but remain skeptical.

The point being all we know about her eating habits is from a source that perpetually lies.

The point being she feeds her 8 month old kids McDonald's. Of course, being the good mum that she is, she pew-chews it for her kids as they have no teeth yet.

...She lost 11 and a half stone? Google puts me at 10 stone, so that's more than an entire me that she lost.. and i'm a 6ft male. How could you let this happen to yourself? Like to even be 29 stone is absurd, how could you ever get to 40.5 stone?!?!

Yeah, so says the Sun. The other, dare I say more credible, article says she may feed them the odd chicken nugget. Slight difference.

No one's judging her character by what she looks, we're judging her eating habits by what she looks.

Oh, that's better then. I forgot (and coming from a medical background I should have known better), overeating is the only way to obesity.

I don't think it is a medical issue because she just lost 11 stone, which means she can lose weight if she really wants to. If it was a medical issue she wouldn't have that much control over it.

Also, I know that there are conditions that provoque serious weight gain, but are you seriously telling me that it's possible that someone gets to 40 stone from a medical issue alone?

40 stone is not just obese, it's morbidly obese.

The point being that is printed in the Scum and is complete bulsh*t.

I don't think anybody's saying she doesn't have a problem but according to the other article she has lost 10 stone in a year and is working with a dietician and others so she can continue to get her weight under control. The rest is the usual sensationalist rubbish.

40 stone is not just obese, it's morbidly obese.

I don't remember the article going into detail about how she lost the weight, so you can't say for certain that she had complete control over it.

Yes, it is possible to become morbidly obese through medical reasons alone.

Somewhile ago on MacRumors a "member" posted about his amazing weight loss.
Everyone was effusive in their praise.
No one suggested he was obviously a "bad person" for getting to be fat in the first place.

However, here is a woman — who I'll bet none of us know personally — and even with the reported fact that she has lost well over an adult's body weight she is still judged by her past.
Why the disbelief that she just may be on the right track?
If she had gained 11 stone since it might be a different story.

I just don't get people sometimes…

But it's so much more fun to point and laugh. And it takes the attention off one's own failings, which is always therapeutic.
+1

Can you give me an example?

I know, and I think it's great. My only point was that she got that way by eating unhealthy, but I praise her for being able to lose te weight. Hopefully she'll get back to a healthy weight.

Pituitary adenoma.

Maybe just a little more detail? And how common is it? And does this woman claim to have a medical condition?

But it's so much more fun to point and laugh. And it takes the attention off one's own failings, which is always therapeutic.

I for one am not pointing and laughing. I don'ts see why you and peterkro think I am. I find this sad and tragic and do hope she takes the necessary steps to get healthier.

Pituitary adenoma.

I'm not sure - for her case at least. Cushing's Disease (which I think you're referring to) tends to cause central weight gain. It's not unusual to see a Cushing's patient with a lot of extra weight in the midsection, but with thin arms and legs (central obesity). Additionally, Cushing's is rare, affecting about 5 per million. She very well could have an atypical presentation in regards to weight, but I would have thought that if she had Cushing's she would also have other problems that would have been noticed by now - osteoporosis, lack of menstrual periods (or highly irregular ones), and frequent kidney stones.

I'm not referring to Cushing's Disease per se. I'm referring to pituitary adenomas which can have an effect on hormone secretion. This occurs in cases separate from Cushing's.

I think there were a couple of people who weren't as effusive. The thread kind of died after the original poster (the one who lost all that weight) started calling one of them a douche.

True. She may have lost that many stone, which means she's making progress.

Either way, her stomach is as big as her ass, so the fact that she's controlling her children's diet for the first 16-20 years of their lives is a bit scary. I'll believe that she lost 11 stone though. It's easy to lose that much weight when you started off weighing over a half-tonne, and then it gets more difficult later.
