iPad Pro 29W ＋ USB-C to Lightning = AWESOME! But have a question

I don't have 12 MacBook, so I got the combo from Apple. Yeah, cost me another $49+$35...
But after I plugged in, I could say that this is a no-brainer purchase if you own 12.9 iPP.
I can, literally, see the battery level increasing 1% every 1 to 1.5 min while I am still using it.
Awesome, awesome and awesome. I strongly recommend you to buy them.

Now, I have a question. If any one has a 12 Macbook and 12.9 iPP, can you test the transfer speed between these two devices with a USB-C to Lightning cable?

I did a test by transferring a random file via iTunes, but there didn't seem to be any appreciable increase in transfer speeds; I was actually quite disappointed and a little puzzled....

Dxxm, I want usb 3 speed so badly! But the lightning to usb 3 camera reader is usb 3 speed. I hope they will have some new usb 3 cable accessories coming out soon.

Battery Health, which has already been remove from the app store.
But you can use another one called Battery Life if you don't care about the advertise in it.

I live by myself and my gf is 700mi away from me. Unfortunately, we meet once every month(me work, she college). In order to spend the spare time, I thought I could develop some hobby, like drawing. And I am a huge fan of Apple. There we go..... OK...no excuse...I just wanna buy the dxxm iPP.

I believe that the new accessories from Apple will support the USB 3 speed, a cable being one of them.

The new Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter and Lightning to SD Card Readers support USB 3 (on the 12.9" Pro) but the USB-C to Lightning cable appears not to, at least today.

Working outdoors, on 4G, with maximal brightness and with the Pencil? Together with a PIP video and I'm able to reduce a full battery in 6 hours back to empty. So I was really happy to spend the extra money on a 29W!

Today I also made the experience of an empty iPP at about 6 pm which was indeed not so nice. But only because I tried to use it for two days without recharging....

Update: an Apple support document has been updated to say:

The USB-C to Lightning Cable supports data transfer at up to 5 Gbps (USB 3.1 Gen 1).

I don't know why the 12.9" Pro doesn't seem to transfer at USB 3 speeds while connected via that cable to a MacBook, though...

i know iPhone benefits greatly from the regular iPad chargers but not sure about 29w, same with 9.7

It seems to be a bug, or maybe an issue with software (either on iOS or OS X); I haven't heard of anyone getting USB-3 transfer speeds with that cable.

The iPad Pro (12.9-inch) has a 38.5 watt hour battery. That's about the same as a 12" MacBook. The MacBook ships with a 29W adapter.

The general principle that slower charging causes less wear does hold, but its impact is negligible.

No-one is recommending people to go out and buy a 12W charger for your 12" MacBook to preserve its lifespan. Charging an iPad Pro at 12W is comically slow. Routinely charging it with a 29W charger is more appropriate and will not shorten its lifespan in any meaningful way.

It is absolute and total BS. I charge my iPhone with the 29W as well when I'm a few nights on the road. Works perfect.
Look at it this way: the chips that regulate charging inside your phone/iPad/laptop decide how much power can be applied to the battery for safe and fast charging. If you have a 5V, 1000A (=5000W) charger, your iPad Pro 12.9" won't charge any faster then with the 29W charger. In fact it will charge a lot slower because the 29W charger and cable do a "secret handshake" with the iPad before determining that it can charge faster. That is why not any charger/cable will make the iPad charge faster, just the expensive Apple 29W charger and the expensive Apple USB-c to lightning cable.
And if it could damage your ipad, why would apple sell these? They are known for some of the cleanest output in USB-chargers. Just buy the Apple 29W charger and Apple USB-c to lightning cable and enjoy the much faster charging. Certainly when on the go, it's really nice (and some times a must) have.

Went ahead and bought the USB-C Charger.

I did notice that the iPad gets charged quicker. Nice. Glad I got it. My other devices also get charged but more or less same as what the 10W charger could do.

Yeah, they seem to see it the same as the charger cable they include with MacBooks / MBPs. Just a power cable with the minimum spec transfer speeds.
