I would think that if it had 2gb of RAM they would have made a big deal about it today because they know most people want the ipads to have 2gb of RAM.

I will say this, if it only has 1gb of RAM then this is really sad for a new model since I don't think it really has much upgrades this year, the biggest being the A8X. It's nice that it weighs 1oz less but I am not sure you would notice the difference. Fingerprint scanner: I don't know anybody who actually wants one on an ipad.

This model is looking like a bust, if it has 2GB of RAM that will be it's only selling point IMO. If it has 1gb of RAM then I am glad I got the Air last year and didn't hold out for this one.

Apple never discloses iOS RAM specs. This keeps people focused on the specs that the masses care about, like weight and thickness. The masses don't care about RAM.

If they announced RAM this year, people would expect an announcement every year. That ain't happening.

Just thot to check it out seeing people are making a huge song & dance over it! So the omission was deliberate......well I won't lose sleep over it suffice to say 1GB will not sway my decision to upgrade from iPad 3; it's already in the bag;)

Thanks for the reminder but "Pretty much confirmed" is not the same as confirmed.

I can wait.

I would say judging by the Air 2 mainboard partly shown during the presentation (mainly the area of A8X and M8), this leaked photo seems legit. Although it could be the mainboard of the alledged 12.9" iPad, I couldn't help but think if a significantly larger device will have a similar layout in mainboard to that of its 9.7" brother...

I completely forgot about that. I was going to write that since they didn't show multitasking, it was likely confirmed it only has 1GB. If it has 2GB I will be really tempted to get one. Since they were showing Pixelmator then maybe they have? I've been waiting to see what they do with the iPad Pro. Getting the Mini 2 (that's what we're calling it now, right?) last year was a stop gap until the Pro for me, as my wife was going to get the Mini 2. I especially want to go back to an Air size now after getting a Plus. But if those photos of the motherboard are true then I might look into it!

I think it's legit too but has yet to be confirmed. Soon we will all know how much RAM is in the A2 and then we can start predicting the next device.

:apple:

I was wondering the same thing. 1Gb is just not enough anymore when today's standard laptops come with 8Gb.

A8X=2GB

A7 (in mini 3 it would seem, unless they popped an A8 in there and I missed it)=1GB

Now commence complaining that 2GB "isn't enough"!

I'll start:

When I have 8 really important forms partially filled (because who would use a desktop OR do one at a time???) and am listening to Pandora while playing Bioshock.... sometimes the tabs will reload meaning: (get this) I have to start the form over... ARGGHHH!!! It's super annoying because I need to do all that at once, and since I spent money the device should do whatever I want (no matter how ridiculous it might seem to need to do all that simulataneously).

What 8 forms am I filling all at once? Doesn't matter. Nunya. But they're really important and have nothing to do with porn. Pinky swear.

When oh when will Apple realize these devices NEED 4GB of RAM???

There. First.

:p
how about only safari running, and two tabs - http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=d7pEgZ-SIVI

But hey, you obviously think that is acceptable performance, since you belittle the entire complaint.

2GB of RAM: When Will We Know?

My SP3 has 8GB of ram and Apple honestly expects me to shell out $600 for their toy that has *maybe* 2?

In what world are you living in, Apple...

queue the: "you don't need 8GB of ram"

well I certainly don't on an iPad. It's 2014 and I can only run 1 application at once.

Here's hoping the watch is good, because the iPad is anything but.

How long does the battery on that SP3 last?

Oh and how is the DPi scaling?

I could just as easily pick one thing (I.e battery life) and exclude every surface product easily! I mean come on, $799 and it lasts for what 6hrs use? Ipad is 499 and lasts 10, that means MS is charging more for less!! RIPOFF

Don't you have anything better to do than complain about products you obviously can't afford anyway?

RAM is a secret, top secret until we get a teardown, no where to be seen on official website.

I would think that if it had 2gb of RAM they would have made a big deal about it today because they know most people want the ipads to have 2gb of RAM.

MOST consumers who buy iPad's don't even know the difference between RAM and the flash storage that it comes with. All most people care about is the color it comes in, how much storage they want and if they want WiFi or Cellular. If it does have 2GB of RAM Apple wouldn't have mentioned it because they never have before. It's a meaningless spec since competing tablets run a different OS.

Anyone who has an iPhone 5s or newer that uses Touch ID wants it on their iPad. That's one of the things I waited for. Not only can you use it to sign in to your iPad, but other apps can use it now as well. Typing a passcode sucks. Now you have no excuse not to secure your iPad since TouchID makes it so easy.

This model is looking like a bust, if it has 2GB of RAM that will be it's only selling point IMO. If it has 1gb of RAM then I am glad I got the Air last year and didn't hold out for this one.

It will would be silly to upgrade from last years model anyway. So no, if you have last years iPad Air of course it wouldn't be worth the upgrade. People don't upgrade their tablets as frequently as they do their phones and I think Apple knows this.

Regardless of how much RAM it has it is a pretty decent upgrade from last years model. The 64GB and 128GB models are $100 cheaper. Faster CPU and GPU, Touch ID, thinner, lighter, better display (laminated with anti-glare), better camera (for those that use the camera on a tablet and many now do regardless of how silly they look, but whatever).

If you want to talk about a bust, that would be the iPad mini 3. Consumers get to pay $100 more for the exact same mini as the previous model with just the addition of Touch ID (and the gold color option). Not sure why they even bothered.

Until we know more, I'm going to believe that it's called iPad Air 2 because it has 2GB RAM.

Otherwise, iPad Air 1.5 would've been sufficient ;)

It's not an article. It's a blog post. He doesn't know anything official. You can tell the difference between a real article at Forbes and a blog post by looking at who wrote it. If it says "Contributor", it's an opinion piece.

Not only that, but the author doesn't know any more than the rest of us. He says, "what is widely expected to be 2 GB of RAM - double the RAM of the previous generation (if accurate)."

The only way we'll know for certain is if someone reputable gets hold of one early and runs some benchmark/diagnostics on the air 2.

Until then, my money stays in the bank.

and I wonder why so? RAM is among standard essential computer components. Its spec is not supposed to be hidden from public.

iOS is built differently and uses less RAM than other tablet OSs. It makes no sense for Apple to spend time on telling people the modest amount of RAM in iPad/iPhone. Surface comes in 4GB and 8GB configurations. Galaxy Tab S comes with 3GB RAM.

It's pointless for Apple to talk about RAM. Additionally it would fire up the multi-tasking discussion for a feature that still haven't been implemented for iOS.

I understand Apple's decision on being silent about RAM. But I really think that they're lazy as hell. It's 2014 and the iPad still can't keep two windows open at the same time.

I still don't think that a lack of RAM is a reason for problems such as tab reloading in Safari. Five or six tabs don't consume half a gig of RAM. I still think there's a deeper underlying problem, and I strongly suspect that even after the RAM upgrade, people still won't be happy.

Where are you based? Typically, you can return a product within a few days of receiving it.

Yes, but ordering a product just to test drive it, is a rather antisocial behaviour, because the returned products usually can't be resold at full price, or at least there are restocking costs involved. As Apple does not have restocking fees, these costs are carried by the people who ordered the product and kept it.

I'm in the US, but there are no Apple stores within 125 miles, and returning things by ups/fedex is also a pain in this town. Plus, I already have an Air, and none of the other "new" features on the Air2 except the CPU bump and a RAM upgrade are all that important to me.

Don't get me wrong, years ago, I might have even waited in line overnight for something like a new iPad, but I'm just not into that kind of thing anymore.
