I would think that if it had 2gb of RAM they would have made a big deal about it today because they know most people want the ipads to have 2gb of RAM.
MOST consumers who buy iPad's don't even know the difference between RAM and the flash storage that it comes with. All most people care about is the color it comes in, how much storage they want and if they want WiFi or Cellular. If it does have 2GB of RAM Apple wouldn't have mentioned it because they never have before. It's a meaningless spec since competing tablets run a different OS.
I will say this, if it only has 1gb of RAM then this is really sad for a new model since I don't think it really has much upgrades this year, the biggest being the A8X. It's nice that it weighs 1oz less but I am not sure you would notice the difference. Fingerprint scanner: I don't know anybody who actually wants one on an ipad.
Anyone who has an iPhone 5s or newer that uses Touch ID wants it on their iPad. That's one of the things I waited for. Not only can you use it to sign in to your iPad, but other apps can use it now as well. Typing a passcode sucks. Now you have no excuse not to secure your iPad since TouchID makes it so easy.
This model is looking like a bust, if it has 2GB of RAM that will be it's only selling point IMO. If it has 1gb of RAM then I am glad I got the Air last year and didn't hold out for this one.
It will would be silly to upgrade from last years model anyway. So no, if you have last years iPad Air of course it wouldn't be worth the upgrade. People don't upgrade their tablets as frequently as they do their phones and I think Apple knows this.
Regardless of how much RAM it has it is a pretty decent upgrade from last years model. The 64GB and 128GB models are $100 cheaper. Faster CPU and GPU, Touch ID, thinner, lighter, better display (laminated with anti-glare), better camera (for those that use the camera on a tablet and many now do regardless of how silly they look, but whatever).
If you want to talk about a bust, that would be the iPad mini 3. Consumers get to pay $100 more for the exact same mini as the previous model with just the addition of Touch ID (and the gold color option). Not sure why they even bothered.
