i think imac is the way to go. the only thing that bothers me the fact it is still ccfl not led. how big of a concern is this?

would you not buy the imac because it is not led? i wonder if it will get updated and look like the 24 led cinema display.

Why would you want it to be LED? My 2007 20" iMac's screen is so bright I have to cap it at 50% brightness to keep it from burning my eyes.

led because

1) it does not decrease in brightness over time
2) instant on
3) steve jobs made a big deal about it in the notebook line and new cinema display
4) led will replace ccfl in less than 5 yrs

I dont know how important led is to the imac, I would think the ccfl will last a long time. Its difficult to tell if it is a huge improvement, a green move, or hype.

There is no issue with the brightness, I have my iMac set at minimum brightness, mid level brightness is as bright as I can stand it. It's not instant on, but I've never felt like I'm waiting for it either. It's a beautiful display.

is it worth waiting for led to come to the imac? or is it better to get a led cinema and a mac mini to the imac?

Actually I do know what Apple is going to do at MacWorld, and it's nothing. They no longer attend MacWorld so don't expect any products to be announced. Apple works on their own schedule now and does not have to feel the pressure of pumping out a new product every January. So you see I do know.

They will still have product announcement events. When they have them now, is anyones' guess. It could still be held in January in SF. They may wait until March when they preview the new iPhone OS and features. I would think they would be working on a new iMac redesign soon. I wouldn't be surprised if they come out with an LED display for the iMac this winter.

With that said, I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor. If you are that worried about it, you could always sell the iMac and buy a new one.
