A while ago I also reported this particular graphic glitch on the official Apple Support forums.

10 minutes ago, someone from Apple called me to ask me if I installed the 10.12.3 update and if I had the issue since.

I told them I installed it when it was released and that it didn't happen since.

The fact that they made this call to check indicate that they probably expect this patch to solve the issue even if it wasn't in the patch notes.

Good news.

Good to hear that Apple support contacted you. I have no display glitches after upgrading to 10.12.3.

I picked up my new machine and started using it yesterday (Sunday). I immediately updated to 10.12.3 and at least so far the problem hasn't happened.

Good to hear! I haven't had any glitches since updating either...

Dare we say the problem is solved?

That's an outlier then. You're the first one to report this problem with 10.12.3. The rest of us experienced it only with earlier versions.

After re-reading your earlier post it looks like yours may be a different problem. It's on different hardware and it goes away after login. With the problem reported here for the 2016 machines the issue persists until the screen goes to sleep.

Update from 10.12.3: Been on 10.12.3 since it came on the normal (non-beta) release, and I haven't had this issue since updating. I haven't changed any other program etc on the laptop, so I'd wager the update fixed the issue for me. Still have an issue with random pop/crackle sounds from what I assume is the speakers though.

Yes, mine is a 2015. All I was trying to do is show that is not limited to the 2016. The issue occurs very rarely, and as I said it goes away by itself within a few seconds.

Pro wouldn't start, would just flicker, then finally start after 3-4 pushes of power button. Took to Genius Bar, they ran tests and said it was fine and software was probably the issue.
It happened again a week later, went back to store who told me they only run basic tests at the Bar (to see if things start). They sent it out for repair and it came back two days later with replaced display. The notes said the display was blurry.
Now I am wondering if I got a blurry unit out of the box and that is why I needed the 1280 resolution.

What do you mean a "blurry unit"? I've never seen such a thing with displays. As for the genius bar, they always blame it on software if the unit passes their hardware tests. It is of course nonsense, but I think they're trained to say that.

They replaced it saying it had "distorted/blurred/focus video issue"
So the screen wasn't clear?

Yes I agree about the software, the power button not turning on did not make sense to be a software issue and no one there could explain it to me. The manager when I turned it in offered up it might be somehow tied to peripherals but I pointed out that I had not been using peripherals for at least 5 days prior.

I was disappointed I had to come back two times within eight days with same issue, the first time being turned away as their tests they ran at the Bar were fine, only to find out from the manager when I came in again, that the tests were only "basic"--to see if the items turned on or failed.

On the positive, they said since I had to come twice they would send it for repair right away rather than running their long tests. They did that and it came back to me a day and a half later with a new display.
