anyone have a link to where I can see the 2 x 1TBs compatible for a macbook pro 17i?

I'm just looking for a straight up answer, a Yes, or a No.

You got that in post #2. If you ditch the DVD drive you can fit 2 1TB drives.

Cheers,

if I ditch the dvd drive eh, hmmmm. gotta decide if its worth it xD

Applestore reps suck. Macsales.com has 1TB HDDs from WD for sale, might buy two of them, and see if I can place both in the new macbook pro if possible.

If you're looking at an optibay, I just read directly from their site that it can only hold a 9.5mm drive, so you may be looking at a 1TB (in main hard drive spot) and a 750GB (in optibay). However, if you can find an optical drive replacement caddy that will accept a 12.5mm drive, you can do 2x1TB

dumb question, wouldn't i need the optical drive for CDs, DVDs, or w/e? (dumb, i know)

Theoretically? Yes.

Physically? I don't think you can fit a 12.5mm drive into the optical bay, so probably not.

Just buy an external USB optical drive.

true. I might just buy the macbook pro 17 in a few days, and get those WD 1TB x 2 ordered.

Do you need "fast" sequential reads across the 2TB? If you don't, RAID0 would be pointless. Buy a SSD and one 1TB disk, and put the files that need to be accessed quickly in the SSD.

No.

"Optibay cheap alternative" thread dwellers please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never heard of an "2nd HDD Caddy for ODD bay" (like "MCE Optibay" or chinese knock-offs) that accept a 12.5mm drive. And all the 1tb drives are 12.5mm tall at the moment.

So the maximum possible capacity in any current Macbook Pro should be:

1tb 12.5mm (main bay) + 750gb 9.5mm (optical bay)

eh, 1TB and 750GB arent that bad, just 150GB off.

do you have the link to purchase the 750GB?

the new egg link for the 5400rpm drive was the best I could find when considering that route.

Here is another link for the optical drive replacement to run another hd in its place $59

Another member suggested this drive to me 750gb 7200rpm

Which is what I eventually went with but your not getting 2tb that way only 1.5tb however your running smaller faster drives so I guess it evens out. All the reviews I've read for the 5200 said its slow but the 5400 may be a good option if you need the storage space. Or you could run a 750 as the main drive and a 1tb as your dual-drive or visa/versa which would maybe be best since you could 1.75tb
