I've had some pretty bad lockups so I would avoid it. It has a lot of bugs but at least give the developers an idea of what they will be getting.

For me on my 3G phone, 3.0 isn't running too bad to my surprise.
I did a clean install instead of backing all my data back in which I thought would slow down my phone in the beginning even more.

I find the phone usable with 3.0. Of course, there are the bugs all around but it isn't too bad. It's a tad slow, but if you have the patience to handle it and have the interest in discovering all the bugs, go for it.

I've found a ton, but I am satisfied with the beta for now. No serious problems yet!

There is no real benefit to using this yet. MMS? Doesn't work. Copy and paste? Is slow and buggy. iPod app is slow and keeps freezing. Mail keeps slowing down. Contacts slows down. My favourite 3rd party apps keep crashing (they worked fine on 2.x) so yes. THIS IS UNSTABLE and you SHOULD NOT install this. If I could go back to 2.x I would.

Are you sure? YOU SURE you read what apple have said with this os BETA You want to read the BETA again? Jeez, use at your own risk, of coruce it is going to be BUGGY...

I HATE people like you

I'm impressed

I actually have found it to be VERY stable and not buggy at all... especially considering it's a beta version. Copy/paste seems very stable and intuitive.

MMS isn't working for me, but that seems to be a common problem for others.

I got it all figured out and got my device added. So I guess I will take the leap and hope for the best ;)

I put it on my main iPhone and have been using it fine since yesterday around 6:00PM CST. So far all the apps are working, getting my email and normal texts just fine.
Ya everything is fine for me to. I put it on my main iPhone and it works great. Just some laggyness here and there, but if your not willing to put up with a BETA then don't do it. Its BETA for a reason people! JEEZ!!!!!

Quit your cryin BETA haters!

Jesus christ. I hate people like YOU. I know what a ****ing beta is. He was asking if it was stable enough to use as his main phone OS. My answer was HELL NO IT IS UNSTABLE.
Get off your ****ing high horse.
Apple seems to expect developers to use this as their main phone OS (or buy an iPhone just for development, HA), so obviously they think it's more stable than it is in the real world.

If you're worried about a beta, than if I were you, I wouldn't upgrade.

I have been using 3.0 for about a day(on my main phone). Apps crash, it's a little laggy, AVRCP doesn't seem to exist, but honestly, what do you expect from a beta? Why don't you try working on an alpha release. Those are fun.

has only one called att and asked them to put the other texting package on there plan, the one that lets you send mms? thats probably the root of everyones problems. if you have the one that comes with the iphone they are just sent as sms messages, rather than mms

You need to understand that this is beta when going into it and realize that there will be bumps in the road. I've dealt with a few - the iPod app is particularly buggy - but it's still pleasant to use

Don't get me wrong, I know that it is going to be buggy as it is beta. My lockups happened when typing an e-mail in landscape mode. It locked to the point that I had to wait for almost a full minuet for the system to catch up. No biggie and it is going to very nice when finalized.

iPod / Music App flat-out not working :(

So, i've been using the beta and more or less love it.
I restored from a backup, youtube works fine, facebook has no images, tweetie works great, wordbook crashes after 5 seconds, pandora doesnt work, loopt works perfectly, the Bank of America app has some interface issues, Rolando, translate, wikipanion, tetris, ambiance, elemints, palringo and icopter all seem to be working perfectly.

what i find particularly odd is that the iTunes app works fine, i can purchase songs, listen to sample clips and browse content without any issues, but as soon as i launch the ipod app, a white screen pops up and then is crashes back to the home screen. also, when searching music and movie results do not show up.

push works! all of my accounts are set to fetch manually, fetch is on and is working perfectly.

Voice Memos app crashes for me and the phone app (during a call) will all of a sudden "lose" the UI and default to a white screen with the infobar at the top.

i really like the new software, but my music is important to me, Im seriously considering reverting back to 2.2.1

No it is MUCH slower and unstable. Things keep crashing. and there is currently no real benefit over 2.2.1 since nothing works anyway!

It is not nearly as unstable as you are hyping all over the place, but it does in fact have bugs, and unless you are a developer, you shouldn't bother.

Its only a fraction of the features that will be rolled out anyway.

Its interesting. So many people are having very different experiences.

ie: My iPod and Phone app have had no issues as you and some have described,
Yet YouTube is entirely non-functional for me.

Very strange. I wouldn't try any chicanery for getting back on 2.2.1, it is not THAT unstable.

Plus why would you? Aren't you using this to test apps between now and summer? Plus, I expect Apple to seed us a new beta once every 3-5 weeks between now and release as they iron out these bugs. Chill. It will be fine.

I'm surprised how stable it is considering how bad 2.0 was when it was first released. I haven't run into any serious problems yet. One of my favorite features of 3.0 is stereo bluetooth which has worked great for me in the beta. If you really really want to try it then go ahead but just remember it is possible to go back to 2.2.1 but it can be a real pain. So don't upgrade unless you can live with the beta until the final version comes out just in case you can't get back to 2.2.1

Agreed. My experience is completely opposite of most. I see lag in a lot of places but most of them are places I don't normally go, so I'm fine with it.

- I'm listening to my NIN Pandora station as I type this.
- My iPod works flawlessly.
- YouTube works as it should. I was even able to log in.
- Phone works the same as before the update. I only had to input my VM password once.
- Reorganizing the springboard is the function in which I've found the most lag. But as I mentioned, it's something I rarely do. Like once per restore.
- Facebook pictures not loading. Seems to be a universal problem.
- MMS works great, except for the sending part. I love how the picture is in the shiny bubble just like any other message.

Plus, I expect Apple to seed us a new beta once every 3-5 weeks between now and release as they iron out these bugs.

I'm new to this beta process. Will we receive the updates the same as any other?

3.0

If you do not have your UDID registered will the phone itself still work (Phone Calls, texts, 3g)??

I haven't really used youtube, but I logged into my account and it seemed to be working okay and my phone works fine too.

The iPod interface is really messed up (by apple standards anyways). Accessories not made for iPhone really make it hang too. When I load the iPod it's a white screen for awhile and then things pop up, but you can't touch any of them because it thinks you're scrolling (there's a shaded sidebar in the corner) and then you tap something and it doesn't turn blue. And if it plays after this I consider myself lucky haha.

There's also an interesting glitch with a smart playlist I created to add basically every song I have on my phone it's like 1800 some songs, but it shows up as no music when I tap it. Which bums me out because I use that playlist a lot, but I got around it by making a smaller playlist of 500 songs derived from that playlist.

Overall I'd say if you're patient and willing to have features over functionality for now go for it. But it may require many app restarts, phone restarts, and time. And like you said, hopefully they start rolling out more and more functional betas as time goes on.

Submit Feedback and Bugs to Apple

For those who are using the 3.0 Beta and are having issues or have feedback about the Beta, I ask that you please submit them to Apple here: https://bugreport.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/RadarWeb.woa/wa/signIn

You do have to have an ADC account. Online ADC membership is free and you can go here https://connect.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MemberSite.woa/309/wo/aLB2BhVf9vCa3XY8YCH2a3mIHUl/0.0 to sign up using your apple ID.

There may be other ways to submit bugs to apple but this is the process that I have found.

It's obvious that everyone is having issues with 3.0 Beta, and that is to be expected, hence the reason for releasing the Beta. I just ask that since you do have the Beta, to be proactive and submit the bugs to Apple.

Everyone seems to be experiencing the same problems, and there are some who are having experiencing problems that nobody else is having.

Here are my specific problems:
- All sounds would stop working and a low volume buzz comes from the bottom speaker
- Text messaging can get slow, and input is delayed.
- Overall iPhone speed/performance is sluggish
- iPod app performance is slow

I wouldn't say it's not stable enough to, but it definitely should not be a final release. I'm quite happy withe the cut and paste as well as the landscape/wide keyboard. Also, it works fine with my Alpine Head Unit, so I haven't really lost any functionality.

Just my .02 cents

goto the edit commmand in message highlight it and then click forward.

I would've loved this an OS ago, but now that copy & paste is coming with this update as well it's much easier to just hold down on a bubble and copy and paste the text. Since that's essentially what forwarding is doing, but because it doesn't know who you're sending it to it opens a blank message which might be inconvinent if you wanted to add comments relating to a text you got from a friend or you're like me and have OCD thanks to the iPhone and just like to double check what your friend said before you send them a text.
