OK you're right about the costs of the prepaid iPhone vs the iPod Touch, so I believe you are correct, but what do you mean "the iPhone produces more profit than the iPod touch, if only because of the phone companies price gouging." You mean more profit for everyone involved or just for Apple, I don't see how the phone companies price gouging makes more profit for Apple since they aren't getting a percent of the monthly fees anymore with the 3G.

Oh, sorry. Didn't mean that as it sounded. I meant to include that also as further evidence. I should have phrased it more like this:

'I think the iPhone produces more profit than the iPod touch, if only because of the phone companies price gouging. '

I meant the high initial price of an off-contract iPhone as a reason adding to my thinking that Apple is getting more profits from the iPhone than iPod touch. Sorry for that, I can see how that could have easily been misinterpreted.

BTW- 3.0 has streetview in the maps app for iPod Touch (FINALLY!):

Ok, one last thing before I sign off for the night-

This is what it looks like when you are playing music on the touch now and double tap the home button:

One thing to notice: The song title font is now smaller and somewhat more "crisp" and readable.

But when will Apple add voiceover to iPod touch and iPhone 3G?

I was reading through the Pre-Installation Advisory and saw:
Updating devices to iPhone OS 3.0 beta software. By installing iPhone OS 3.0 beta software on your Authorized Test Devices, these Devices are permanently “locked” into testing mode and cannot be restored to earlier versions of iPhone OS.
Can you verify this? I'm thinking about updating my iPhone, but would like to find out whether or not it will truly be locked to the 3.0 beta (until the official 3.0 is released).

Thanks!

I have no doubt that there is a way to go back, but I wouldn't bother because this version just gets better and better. After my first restart everything worked perfectly, and I could NEVER go back to a bluetooth dongle now. For iPhone users I wouldn't recommend going 3.0, but if you have a 2G touch, the processor seems to handle it quite well.

So Bluetooth A2DP but not AVRCP (remote control), no
HSP (Headsets) and no HFP (hands free). Looks like they support a few other profiles, but specifically limit any with mic functionality that could be used for Skype/VOIP when in WiFi range.

I'd love to see ICP (intercom) so you could walkie-talkie between two Touches within bluetooth range. Should work between adjoining rooms at least.

I have a question. Scott Forstall mentioned more and better language support. Can anyone post screenshots of the new languages?

Uh... no. Bluetooth hardware is already in the second-gen iPod touch. They're turning it on.

It's the same as when they turned on 802.11n in early Intel Macs with a $2 software upgrade.

Which means that you, owning a 1G touch, will not get any functionality that is related to bluetooth.

I installed a legit copy, so I've got no clue.

Where can I acquire a copy?

You need to either become a paid developer ($99 to be able to upload to the App Store and/or download betas of 3.0) or know one who's willing to bend the rules. I assist a certain developer from time to time, and he sent it to me to test out his app (and no, it isn't an app in any of the screenshots :p).

If you do get the .ipsw file, simply alt + click the update button (mac) or shift + click update button (Windows) and select the .ipsw file you downloaded. Good luck!

Sure, no problem. I don't know what's new here, so bear with me, Click on the image below:

Where can I download this! I want to try it on my iPod touch 1G

Are you a dev? You can get the torrent however when you try to sync itunes brings up a message stating that you are not a developer and hence the firmware cannot be activated.

I saw your map and I was working in that area the other day lol.
I was thinking about getting a Touch for my daughter since shes doing so well in school, but not sure yet.

Any word on battery life?

Pretty good. Not as good when you turn on bluetooth, but if you have it on low brightness with all battery draining settings off (Wi-FI, Bluetooth, Location Services, ect), the battery life is just as good as the 2.x versions, if not better.

Just out of curiosity, if you pay the $99 to become a developer and install the 3.0 beta on a iPod Touch 2G will you still have to pay the $10 to upgrade to the official 3.0 release?
