Ok - so it's probably a good idea to do this update because of the exploit... So is this how I go about it?

Connect my 3GS and do a Restore (as new or not?)
    Update to 3.01
    Resync the iphone
Re-Jailbreak and reinstall my apps (any way to backup and restore these apps)

    Anything I missed?

    Thanks.

    PackFan,

    1. make sure that your iPhone is backed up.

3.the jailbreak for 3.01 has not been released yet, so if you do update, you will lose the jailbreak.

    3. install APTBackup (it's free), it will back up a list of your Cydia apps, then perform a backup in iTunes. When you do restore your phone, restore it from a backup, install APTBackup again and click restore, it will then redownload your Cydia apps automatically.

To know when the jailbreak is released, check http://blog.iphone-dev.org

Do not update yet. We don't know if it breaks redsn0w/purplera1n. Wait a little bit to see what the community discovers.

We dont know if the jailbreak programs will work with 3.0.1
So just sit back and wait if you want to keep your phone JB.

Someone can text you and gain controll over your phone.
Unless you have texting completelly turned off thru AT&T then you dont have nothing to worry since you're not able to receive SMS.

Thanks for being so helpful... Because those threads are geared toward jailbreaking? A post in the hacks forum seemed much more pertinent...

Well, that's good to know. That'll make some of the JBers happy. Has anyone tried 3.0.1 that JBed with redsn0w here?

That's fine as long as we don't get a bunch of people that haven't JBed on this forum. So far, that seems to be true.

Edit: It might help to change the thread title to "3.0.1 update and jailbreaking," or something along those lines.

Apparently it doesn't. Looks like Apple just released a quick, small fix for the SMS issue.

Did you personally test tethering under 3.0.1 or is this only hearsay? I use tethering a lot with work and breaking it would be a huge hindrance on my work.

This very well may be a noob question, but wouldn't re-JBing with the 3.0 ispw patch file leave the SMS vulnerability open? Don't we need a 3.0.1 firmware patch?
