Depending on your mood, it's either a star in the Draco constellation, or a six-core processor from AMD which hasn't been released yet.

Definitely the latter. While I'm probably going to be spinning my wheels, it should have a very good price point for performance. Or at least, that's the theory.

If you got the time and know how to a hack is much cheaper and faster unless you really need a dual Xeon workstation.

I hate people using Hackintosh. You've killed the soul of this computer and it's highly illegal. Apple should block all processors they don't use in their computers like Core2Quad, Atom, all AMD etc.

Please get a clue.

There is absolutely NOTHING illegal about using OSX on non-Apple hardware.

The recent court ruling regarding EULA's and resales might come back to hurt us in the long run though (in the USA of course).

Well done.

I considered doing this but couldn't find the parts cheap enough. A friend of mine is trying to find the parts to build a similar spec PC to mine and he can only save around 10%.

Did you buy the parts all new or from ebay?

Another zombie thread rises from the crypt.

That may be so, but it really has me considering what to do in regards to a future update, as I just priced up a 3.2 quad core Mac Pro, with 12GB third party RAM, some more storage and Win7 + an SSD for my windows box, it came to £3150. Fortunately I've saved up the funds, but if I built a new hackintosh of the same specs, with top quality components, all the extra storage, water cooler, a fantastic case, silent fans and Win7 + SSD, it comes to £1550.

So I'm really having to think about this, as I fully know the pros and cons, as I still have my working Dual G5, and my quad core hackintosh works really well, with a few caveats, so I'm kind of stuck as to what to do, as a possible saving of £1600 isn't to be laughed at, hell that could go towards a new notebook

Can you use any GPU on a hackintosh, or does it have to be an Apple one?

By the way, my 8 core Mac Pro rated 7.8 :)

Why on earth did you resurrect this zombie thread???

There are plenty of Hackintosh sites that will answer your question.
