After some testing it does seem like this battery is better,I could literally see the meter go down when on wifi, now I can't. But I think this checker pattern is worse than the pics posted here as I can see them looking at the phone straight on.

I may have to drive 2 hours to a store to get a "good" one.

Edited: Take the drive. My 63 year-old mother drives from Oklahoma to Arkansas without blinking. Please, take the drive and make sure they give you that BT for your time.

Two different phone support people told me tonight that I cannot return/exchange it at a store since it was an online purchase (I had inquired about it)....

I have to do this Mail-In run around.....

when my printer died and i sent it back to HP they wanted me to ship it out first before sending me another one. Its just how things are done.
i would be more mad that i didn't have a phone for a day or two

Just an outsiders experience:

Verizon's policy on this is to send you a new phone, then you ship the old one back in the same prepaid package. I've had to do this twice so far, and it's really convenient.

That being said, I'm probably still going to buy an iPhone when/if they announce true exchange support.

Problem there is provider doesn't equal manufacturer.

Dude, thats a hard drive... Not a 650 dollar phone.

There are hard drives that cost more than 650. They still send you the replacement drive first. Apple has never done this so i am not sure why that is a suprise. They can cross ship as long as your phone has a tracking number associated with it. Shoot you may be able to get them to overnight it for no extra charge.

What consumer level hard drive cost more then $650?

I really don't think too many consumers are buying Seagate Cheetah's for home use.

I sure hope they are not!

I kinda agree with you that they should ship the replacement first. When I had my Nokia 8801 replaced, I called Nokia Enhanced Customer Service and they shipped the new one to me with the label and the instruction to put the broken one back in the box. That was really easy, and I think Apple should do that too! I wouldn't mind if they had to have my credit card number on file in case I didn't send the broken one back they would just charge me for it.

Oh yea and this was a $750 phone! Yet, Nokia still did that.

Exactly, every other phone replacement program has ALWAYS shipped a new phone first, along with a return label for the damaged product.

Why is the iPhone any different?

I just noted about the HDD stuff because it's an 'electronic' that is valuable, especially if you buy retail. Of course, most of us buy wholesale (aka newegg), but there are people that pay the $200-$250 at Best Buy/Circuit City.

Anyways, I wasn't using it as a price comparison. Just noting in general. Apple is surely making a big deal over nothing. Ship a new phone with a label, and the customer will return the bad phone. Simple!

I can see where he is coming from.

I've had a cell phone since I was 18 (25 now) and have been on AT&T, Sprint, Cingular, T-Mobile, and now the New AT&T. When I was on Sprint and Cingular, I had to have my phones replaced. Both times, I was sent out a new phone, can't remember if it was next day or 2nd day, but it was quick. The point of the advanced exchange is to have as little down time on the phone, which is some what of an important necessity for most people.

I think the problem here is, to get support on the iPhone, you don't deal with AT&T, you deal with Apple, and Apple has no such policy. I will agree that its disappointing, but thats just the way it is. I am going to find out if they need the sim card in order to repair an iPhone, if not, I am going to get a cheap phone to use just in case my iPhone needs to be sent off to Apple.

So shortly after talking with AppleCare tonight I got my confirmation email on the repair. about 30mins later I get another email with a different repair ID.

So I open it (versus disregarding it like I did the first email) and compared it to the first email, identical other than the different repair ids.

After a few minutes I decide it would be a good idea to ring back apple just to make sure they aren't expecting two phones. Sure enough the CSR says I had two open tickets. To top it off the open tickets that were created on the previous call were for the serial number of the phone I sent back a week ago lol.

So since this CSR couldn't modify existing tickets he had to transfer me to another department, he told me the wait was 25mins but he'd stay with me until I was answered (and to also explain the ticket issue).

So this CSR knew what he was doing and voided the previous two tickets and made a brand new one. He told me if I gave him a CC number to put on file he would send me a loaner phone, so I did. There was no discussion of a $29 fee.

So in two days he said I'll have the loaner phone and a prepaid return label.

Now this baffles me. Why on earth would they waste time and freight money to ship me a loaner phone (which I am to ship back after recieving my new phone, at their expense) instead of mailing me a new phone which is the end result anyways lol. Crazy Apple.

Apparently not sick enough, as you PMed me with a lowball ($65) offer to buy the free Bluetooth I'm supposed to get.

LOL.....! Post of the day!

I agree with the op. It is a cell phone. People depend on them for various reasons, and the many providers I've used the last decade or so always shipped out the phone and backing their assets with your credit card as collateral.

Key word you used in your post was "providers".

Exactly. I was going to edit my post and note that. If Apple/att decided it was best for Apple to handle support and warranty for the phone, they should handle it as such. The situation is going to get worse if more customers complain, unless they're ready to hand out free bt sets. $30 for a loaner and/or a few days without a phone? I guess this was expected from a company that sells earbuds for $30 and chargers for $40.

I think in time something will be worked out. The whole phone thing is new to Apple. It is one thing to be without your iPod or laptop a few days but being without your phone can be a problem.
