I bought a iPhone 5 off Craigslist around July and the seller had bought the iPhone 5 a month earlier. So it's still under apple warranty. He have me the box and the OEM charging cable too but just a few weeks ago it went bad.

Can I just go to the apple store with my non working cable and they'll swap it for free? Do they ask for any information? Since I'm not the original owner the iPhone 5.

I've had my 1Phone 5s 3 week's now, and a few days ago it developed quirky charging issues and then showed this screen

>>This is the cable that came with the phone, an Apple cable.

Being a just 3 week old phone, I immediately suspected something like latest iOS 7 update, etc.
Yet, the phone worked at home in my iHome bed clock radio, so suspected some interoperability issue with my iPhone and my car USB to audio headunit.

Since I work for a major car OEM, I spoke to my Audio dept, they suspected my cable immediately, and they were spot on.

Bad 8 pin connector - bad side
Look closely, 4th pin from top the electrical plating is "peeled back", the dark area

So,I took this to the Novi Michigan Apple store, they swapped my cable free of charge....

Am I the only one with this issue?
Does not inspire in me good confidence of the 8 pin conenctor.

I don't work for Apple, therefore cannot answer your question.

Yes, the warranty is tied to the device, not the owner.

It happened again, 1 week ago

Added info:
I've had zero issues since got the replacement cable from apple store (they gave me a 6 foot cord).
This cord is strictly for to/from work usage in my car, the daily 35-45 minute keep the iPhone topped charge thing.

Then - here's new info - my wife used the car, plugged in her iPhone5s, and it happened to her!
Now, after we talked things thru this actually happened to her the first time, but somehow I missed that.
And of course the cable does not work with mine either.

Now this is really perplexing, as there is zero issues for her using her car and cord, or home and cord.....

anyway I'm going to visit Apple store with both phones, bring the cord, and see what happens......

Tell u what, if the force me to buy a @$"; $20 cable I expect it to be perfect and overnight one to my house no question asked.
