Have there been any rumors/speculation/talks of a 30" iMac?

A 30" would make a great addition to the lineup imo. Im dreaming here but a 30" Penryn iMac with 1TB HD and HD-DVD/BlueRay would make the ultimate bedroom home theater/computer!

Only downside is that it would be very expensive.

if Apple charges $1899 for the cinema display of a 30" what do you think an iMac would be?? $3k ++??? For that price i'd rather buy a 8 Core Mac Pro with a 30" Dell LCD :D

there have not been many rumors. and it would still be to expensive for several more years. if you want one the closest you will get is a Mac pro with a 30" ACD and add a blu-ray and an HD-DVD drive later. it would probably be similar in cost too.

:p because the ACD are better, but i see your point :p

and 30" would be to big and heavy IMO, maybe in the future when everything becomes less place-needing and less heavier..

I don't know if I'd personally be comfortable buying a 30" AIO. With a major investment such as a 30" display, I think I would like it not to be directly tied to an non-upgradeable AIO.

30" will always be 30", unless you go projection or holographic or something.

But if the ACD are better quality than it would be more expensive right?

Questions like this make me think, how big will computer displays get? Will we eventually have 42" displays, 50"? Where will it end? I guess, as with most thing in technology, it will never end... ;)

For the iMac i think 30" is too big and way too expensive there is no such thing as a cheap 30" panel they are all expensive and none are really good so it sounds like the computer would have to be around $3500

    No thanks!!

HDTV is so last generation already. I'm waiting for Ultra High Def - 7680x4320 resolution and 22.2 surround sound, baby!

no school like the old school.

i used to be hell bent for bigger. then i got it. after the upgrade, my neck hurt from looking left and right, and come to find out being partially deaf, anything above 2.1 is a complete waste. so went back to my sanyo CRT tv, apple hifi, and 24" dell LCD with 5 inputs. life is good again!

And screw Blu Ray / HD-DVD, I need something with more capacity to store my UHDTV content (one minute of footage takes up about 200 GB). I was initially thinking of going with HVD, but 4 TB on a disc just won't cut it for UHD movies, so I'll have to hold out for PCD I guess... 50 TB per disc should do me for a while...

According to my calculations, if Apple were to make a 30" iMac, the cheapest it would cost would be 2699. Here's what I did

    30" Cine display = 1799
    23" cine display = 899
    Price difference = 900

    24" iMac = 1799
    add 900 bucks = 2699

But, since the 30" would be geared more towards Pro than consumer, I'm sure it would have a faster chip or something, making it more like 2999 or higher. If they made one and the screen was top notch, I'd get one. It would be nice if they can make one where the RAM maxed out higher than 4 gigs....would the next step be 8 gigs?

Also, a bluray burner would be amazing. My last 2 projects are mastered in HD (one in 720p and one in 1080p) so it would be nice to retain that resolution. I die a little on the inside when I watch a regular dvd of them....the pixelation is very noticeable.

Personally, I'd get one if I had the money. I use final cut pro so the larger the screen the better.

I heard Apple is going to release this next Tuesday! ;) :p :D

As for the 30 inch iMac, at this time, I doubt many would buy one since it is a closed system and would cost so much. Especially when you consider you can get a great MacPro and 30 inch monitor for probably what a 30 inch iMac would cost, and you can upgrade the MacPro.

If I was buying an all in one computer with a screen so large, it'd sure as hell better have some decent INPUTS!

30" is crazy - I don't think we'll see it. A 30" display for most is prohibitively expensive already...

They won't release a 30" iMac until they're built with fold-able screens so they can be folded up and put in a case for portability.

    30" iMac, I wouldn't think so.

Imagine the reinforced desk you would need ...
