30" iMac -- Any rumors / possibility of one?

How much difference in weight would there really be though between a 30"iMac and the current 30" ACDs? The iMac's components wouldn't make that much of a difference I would think. 😉
 
A friend has the 24" iMac and it is seriously heavy.

I know it's different, but the difference between a Mac Pro case and a complete Mac Pro is fairly substantial which makes me think a 30" iMac would be a tad too heavy.
Sorry forgot to add:
A tad too heavy on the pocket as well and like the other iMacs not great for upgrading.

I have a 24" iMac and it is not that heavy, unless the person is a weakling... 25 pounds isn't that bad... 😛 😉

Seriously though, I know where you're coming from, and I agree, I don't see Apple releasing one any time soon. 🙂
 
Unless you have a low-end Ikea desk - I don't think weight would be that much of an issue. I just lifted my 24" iMac - and it isn't heavy at all. My friends tower ALONE is 2x that - and his POS desk is doing just fine.

I would STRONGLY contemplate (@*#ing (#&$ if it got me one of these... (of course with Blu-Ray RW drive, 8800+ Nvidia, pciE slot, FW3200, USB3.0 and DVI, HDMI, and component INPUTS)

That's the worst mockup I have ever seen, but I would love to see a cut down Mac Pro inside of a 30" iMac as well. Forget about BluRay though since I am not paying $700 for a drive that doesn't do anything more than let me watch movies.

AND DON'T MAKE THE SCREEN GLOSSY FOR GOODNESS SAKE!
 
It's not my mock-up - but that is the worst you've ever seen??? In that you don't like this - or it is the hack-job picture quality?

Because honestly - I think that trumps both the previous iMac and current iMac designs.

I'd throw down serious cash for it. Perhaps I'll update it later with what I want - and we can see if you like the "redesign" any better, ok?

And as for the BRD - fine - it can be an OPTION - and option that you won't get - and I will. 😎

I know it wasn't yours... i should have said that in my post. It's the hack job picture quality that really annoys me. The person that did it has no imagination. I would love to see a 30" look like the current model, sans the glossy display, at least.

And you are right about BluRay. Not that I have anything against it, just that I don't want to see the price jacked up $700 for it.
 
If they do, they better put a HDMI input or a DVI input, so when that thing is obsolete, at least the monitor can be reused.
 
30" iMacs

I think larger screen iMacs are inevitable. I would say a 32" is the most likely to fit the consumer entertainment center standard. I have a HP 22" which is spanning from my 20" imac that rotates for a 1680 vertical view. It's very Nice!

Prices will continue to head downward for displays

But I think 32" will be it for the iMac form factor as it is currently designed.

Don't forget how much the Apple 22" was when it first was released. Wasn't it $3999.00?
 
I don't know if it was the 22" - but I saw an Apple Cinema display in Frys Electronics loooong ago. I can't remember the exact cost - I only remember that it costed MORE than the car I had - and distinctly remembering "if only I could afford an Apple".

My how times haven't changed. (I have my Apples via Debt - You're Welcome Visa...)
 
highly doubt it, it will be way too expensive and i think people that are willing to spend this much money would prefer to buy the apple monitor as is so it can be used with other machines and/or sold off later.
 
It's very possible in my opinion. When the G4 Lamp shade first got 20" everyone thought it was huge, and it cost about as much as the 24" does now. So in another year or two I can see a 30" iMac coming out that would have a whole new design to it that may be around $2400.

Maybe something like this:

For those that know me and are thinking that I post these way too often, sorry, but it's the most original design I have EVER seen, not a retouching of some current Apple tech in Photoshop.
 
Well, what I want is a lot more realistic than that mockup.

If you could find someone who could make that LCD alone - the aerospace industry will pay you in the billions for it - as they're trying, and have yet to really succeed.

Not that this mockup is realistic, because none of them are or they are terrible, and this one is OLD, right after the time Apple was switching to the G5 processor and the new Apple Cinema Displays. In my opinion though, it's one that is actually very creative and unique.

Now mockup artists claim that they try to make a new computer look practical for current technology and manufacturing techniques, but that just isn't the case.
 
You won't see a 30" imac until apple can source a suitably crappy glossy display for them. Fortunately most 30" lcd's currently on the market are too nice for an ijunk incarnation, even the lowly dell which only prduces 90% gamut
 
Pretty Slick! If one ever came out for ~ $2400 I would definitely swipe the ol credit card!

I have seen that, and it's by far one of the best designed displays since the ACD. If Dell mass produced that and didn't put it on a flimsy plastic stand and gave it FW400 or 800 ports it would be sitting next to my future Mac Pro.

Got me excited for a second there. No, it can't be oled. No billions for that.

I can't get into WHY oleds won't work (seriously), because I might actually get in trouble. 🙄

But if they could make an LCD with a contrast ratio greater than 10,000:1 AND completely see-through, you might have a winner. 😉
