Poor implementation of Android phones across the OEMs is mostly to blame for this, I fear.

The Nexus program can't get bigger fast enough.
I miss their Google Play editions instead of the Nexus line being separate phones.

I would be all over a Google Play Edition Note 5 or Galaxy S6 Edge +

Might look like at a Moto X pure edition instead.

No surprise many are switching for the superior experience. One of the things that all this $0 carrier financing does is allow Apple to sell their $650+ phones on a level playing field with the cheaper Androids, which further lessens the reason for choosing an Android.

On another note, Apple made the 6s/6s+ so good that they're going to have to pull a rabbit out of the hat to make most of its users upgrade. But then again I could be wrong, there will also be lots of 6 and older users who are waiting for the iPhone 7.

I went from a gs4 Google play edition to an 6S. There are very few choices for smaller premium android smartphones. That coupled with a jailbreak coming out right away sealed the deal.

Not surprising. I personally know quite a few people who have made the switch in 2015. People are sick of buying "flagship" android phones and having them work like garbage in 6 months with poor manufacturer support and no software updates.

Really? not something I recognise from Sony and the Xperia line. I think the real reason is because consumers are fickle. They like something new so will move from one phone to another on a whim. If Android release something that peeks interest then people will buy into that just as quickly. It's the way of business.

I have switched the other way and enjoy the freedom to do most anything I want with my Android phone. I did not have that same freedom with Apple.

as much im ok with apple using their products...i love to have competition and in this style is not working well in future

One of several possible reasons including:

1) Subsidized contracts going away.
2) Mature market.
3) "Good enough" factor.
4) Like you said, some people want a smaller phone, but not necessarily a smaller display.
5) Some people don't like the less than stellar 6/6s design and are hoping Jony makes a design comeback with the iPhone 7.

I agree with number 5. the antenna bands are a design disgrace! Also an iPhone is an iPhone, it's not too important :)

Only 1/3 Apple customers? Maybe the WANT A SMALLER iPHONE?!

Exactly!

Cook touts the small number of oversized iPhone users as a positive, when it's really a negative. 67% of iPhone users are still on 3.5" or 4" iPhones. They are still using iPhones that are 2-8 years old.

Why Apple are ignoring the 4" market beggars belief. I guarantee that if they had brought out the iPhone 6 and 6s in 4" as well as the bigger sizes, their sales would have been significantly higher than they were, are and will be, Amen.

I'm with you - I switched from the iPhone 4 which I was happy with for a few years to the Sony Z3c (which I bought for 2/3 the price of an iPhone 6) and not looking back to another iPhone. I'm looking at switching my tablet to a Sony Z4 now.

I have an Android phone (Xperia Z3)and I'm going to switch to iPhone 6s. I always skip the non S models. The S models are the best and is a worthy upgrade. I'm tired of OEMs abandoning their models after 6 months.

I wish there was a 5.2 iPhone though. iPhone 6S+ is way to big.

If Apple want iPhone 5 and 5S users to upgrade, they're going to have to offer a 4" iPhone with features like Apple Pay and 3D Touch. There is obviously a lot of demand for the huge new iPhones, but there is also obviously a lot of demand for the medium-sized iPhones like the 5 and 5S. Probably no need to reintroduce smaller iPhones like the 4 and 4S.

I am not going to pay £539 for a 16gb phone that doesn't even look or feel top end quality, whereas the 5s just oozes quality with its glass and stainless steel construction, its still a beautiful phone and feels modern even though it is in its third year of production, and still pretty quick in use, never feels under powered.
You are confusing the phone model or are mistaken about the materials used. The iPhone 4 and 4s had a stainless steel frame with glass fronts and backs. The iPhone 5 and 5s have an aluminium case with a glass front (obviously) and only two small glass inset on the back.

But otherwise I agree that glass on the back (even the small insets on the 5/5s to a smaller degree) made the iPhone 4/4s look more valuable and the steel frame that doesn't get dinged up like the aluminium of the iPhone 5/5s and 6/6s.

I switched from Windows Phone 8.1. I was tempted to get the Lumia 950XL with Windows Mobile 10 but Nadella is putting MS mobile through a transition phase. I think Windows Mobile will be awesome when the transition is over but it's painful to be a part of right now. I'm enjoying my iPhone for now but I'm hoping MS releases a solid mobile strategy (mobile payment, solid premium phones, great apps) in the next 2 years.

I have the Xperia Z3C and the Z2 tablet - it's such a liberating experience not having the manufacturer telling you just what you can and can't do. Add to this the Z3 is the equal of any iPhone as regards build quality (as attested to by many reviews) and all for a much saner price point. It's a win win.

You can count me in that number. I still love Android as an OS but other than Nexus devices all other OEM's can keep their phones. It's a total mess when it comes to software updates.
I may still get a Nexus 6P to go with my 6S. Jail breaking the 6S makes it very unreliable. The Nexus phones are much more hacker friendly.

The other reason is that the 6/6s just doesn't feel like a premium product, it feels more like an iPhone rip off. It looks and feels a bit cheap, not avery nice phone at all and not very desirable. I love this sentiment. The iPhone 4/s, 5/s lines had a truly beautiful industrial design to them. That said, I plan on upgrading my 5 to a 6s+ this weekend ;).
