Appleinsider reports that the long awaited iMac updates will finally be released in mid to late summer -- "sometime between the latter half of July and mid-August".

Appleinsider reiterates that the 20" and 24" iMacs will see radical redesigns "both slimmer and sleeker" than today's offerings.
When the project manifests later this summer, it will represent the first major industrial design overhaul to hit the flagship all-in-one consumer Apple desktops in nearly three years.

The 17" iMac is notably absent from the planned makeover and is expected to be discontinued.

it really is about time. i hope they get rid of the chin, and i hope they bring back some color into the imac line.

Sweet. Might be time to retire the Rev. A iMac G5. On second thought, screw that, we need more iPhone threads. Way too much Mac news lately.

Great! I've been waiting for the redesign. Is it possible they put an 8800 GTX in it?

That would be perfect timing too. My ADC discount expires in the beginning of September, and I'm kinda holding out for a new iMac!

1. No touchscreen yet, maybe next year, probably 2009.

2. No LED yet, that will be a 2008 revision to the new form factor.

3. July 10th or 17th, anything later is an even bigger slap in the face. We will have waited through the iPhone and the Leopard re-preview. Tomorrow would actually be better, but August is an insult.

About time

I've been waiting to buy a new computer, and my colleague is thinking about his first Mac (an iMac). I've recommended that he wait until new machines come out before buying one. He even wants to wait until Leopard.

Haha late summer I am so glad I bought my iMac when I did. I would hate to be waiting all this time!!

I vote down on this article. We've heard the same news about new iMacs 100 times now. What's new here?

AppleInsider said:
Omitted from the makeover will be Apple's 17-inch iMac model, people familiar with the project have said. The entry-level offering will reportedly become the subject of considerable neglect, and may eventually meet the same fate as the firm's now defunct 12-inch PowerBook and soon-to-be sacrificed Mac mini.

Awww, the mini and 12" book are the only two sizes I wanted to buy... Apple where's the love people for on the go?

Hope They Finally Go Aluminum Like This Prototype We've Seen For Years

I like the top one.
