This is a good point in favor of 32, but I guess I should say that another consideration is that in a year Apple will come out with the next generation iPhone, and perhaps AT&T will offer the same early upgrade. So I'm not thinking it's likely I'll have this phone for 2 years. Am I wrong?

Same dilemma here. I will likely upgrade next June when Apple comes out with new iPhone. And, I have to consider the resale value of 16 vs. 32 come next June.

Seeing how the 3G's higher capacity used iPhone--16GB--was and still is fetching about $150 MORE than the 8GB, there is a good chance that 32GB's resale value will be $150 higher than 16GB next year. So, if the difference is over $100, it makes a strong case for 32GB.

Just so you know, video takes up about 26MB per minute, so with 7GB you can record around 4 1/2 hours of video, although I'm sure your battery will die before you reach that amount (Unless you put it in airplane mode, possibly).

I had an 8GB iPod Touch which was always at the brink with music and apps. With my 16GB 3GS I carry with me all the music that I actually listen to plus some random stuff, a few podcasts, lots of apps and still have some free space for video. When TomTom comes out I may be wishing that I upgraded as I don't know how large the app will be. On my HTC Touch (windows mobile) it only took up 1 gig so i'll be fine if that's the case.

Same problem here, but I'm going for the 16gb. For me, it's also psychologicaly, I feel more comfortable with the least expensive iphone in my pocket than with the most expensive one. Remember: even thought it's *just* 100$, the more money you put into it initially, the more you lose if you lose or break it. My philosophy is: just get the base model and make do. It's the experience that counts. In a years time, sell it for 70% of the price, just before the new ones come out, and then you'll most likely get 32gb.

But ofcourse, I'm talking about iphones in belgium that are going for 800$ and 950$. If I were in the states going for 200$ vs 300$, I'd probably go for 300$ since that's still acceptable for a phone. But in my case, 800$ is alot already

I don't think I have ever exceeded 3GBs of usage on my 3G, but I still bought the 32GB 3GS due to the much higher resale value.
