Installed mine yesterday. Works great, but after a few hours it definitely gets hotter than the oem 120gb fujistu drive. My left palm is not a huge fan right now!

Agreed, the WD 320 does get significantly hotter than the standard 120GB drive in my MBP 2.2

Anyone have any ideas on how to insulate the top of the case some so your palm doesnt get so hot??? I imagine the drive still wouldnt get too hot (i.e out of its safe operating range) if there was some insulation above it (being careful to not cover the breathing hole)

i was thinking putting some insulating tape or something on the underside of the top case

me neither, same heat as usual and i did not yet open to check on the breathing hole

Okay after more usage I would say the increase in heat is really not that bad. It's only slightly warmer than the Fujitsu that was in the MBP.
The reason it was so hot for me previously was because I was reformatting and re-installing my apps and files, which caused more disk activity than in normal everyday usage.

Is there any speed advantages using the WD3200BEVT drive opposed to the orignial Fujitsu drive? Real life and spec-wise?

They are both 5400rpm drives but because of the increased data density of the WD3200BEVT, the data is read faster.

.

I agree with this. I only notice really hot heat when I'm doing something with abnormally high disk activity. And even then it wasn't uncomfortable.

I'd still like to know about the vibration I'm feeling though. Should I get a replacement, or did I just mount the thing wrong somehow?

there is two small 'holes' that fit the two rubber bumpers on the left side of the drive, maybe you did not insert them fully when installing your drive?

Slapped this bad boy into my computer today... Installed Leopard, used Migration Assistant, and all is back to normal. LOVE IT.

Those of you that have done hard drive upgrades have you had any issues getting Apple warranty support after that if you needed it? I know opening up the MBP and swapping hard drives supposedly voids your warranty but can you safely just swap back to the original drive and it not be an issue if you need to send it in for repairs?? Just wondering before I pop mine open to install a Hitachi 200gb 7200rpm.

You guys should have waited just a little bit longer...Samsung just release their 500GB 2.5 9.5mm drive on tuesday...have a look here.

I think i'll go ahead and order...as soon as it is available on newegg or somewhere.

Personally I will wait for benchmark tests and lower prices but you just go your way.

I just looked at Tomshardware and the best performing 320gb 5400 RPM drives are the Samsun Spinpoint m6 and the WD3200BEVT, Samsung for lower power consumption and the latter for more stability and access time.

I can't find it anywhere to buy!?

So think i'll wait a bit longer.

I've got the 2.33ghz middle macbook pro and it has 2gb of ram do you think there is much point in upping it to 3gb??

I've only got a 120gb hard disk and its half full just with the applications (adobe suite, lightroom, iWork, rapidweaver, etc) and a bit of music (14gb)

I keep my photos, about 25GBs worth, on my external 250gb disk so if i upgrade I'm guna get a 500gb external for timemachine.

Anyone want to buy some prints to help me? :D
