iPhone Blog

After the past few weeks of intense iPhone coverage, in just a few hours, the first of our readers will be setting up their iPhones. Since MacRumors.com traditionally covers breaking news and rumors, it only makes sense to provide our iPhone readers ongoing day-to-day iPhone coverage and use.

We've launched a new sub-blog at:
https://www.macrumors.com/iphone/

which can also be reached by the "iPhone" navigation tab at the top of the page. Our iPhone blog carries its own RSS feed as well as an expanded view of the iPhone discussion in our forum, including the latest photos from the iPhone forums.

iPhone Forums

To help organize the forum iPhone traffic, we've created a number of new forums:

• iPhone News Discussion - Official blog/news posts
• iPhone - General Discussion
• iPhone Accessories - Accessories
• iPhone Apps and Development - 3rd Party Applications
• iPhone Meetups - for launch day (temporary)

Please direct posts to the appropriate forums.

Reader Impressions

We've also set up official threads for new iPhone users to post their experiences, to try to consolidate the information:

• iPhone Unbox/Setup Photos - post your photos
• iPhone First Impressions / Reviews - post your thoughts
• Early Adopter Questions (coming) - questions other readers had about the iPhone

Threads will be open for discussion shortly after 6pm ET.

Post Photos

If you were at one of the regional meetups for the iPhone line, we encourage you to post your photos to your Regional Meetup discussion thread so others can see them. We would prefer you attach the photos to the thread so it will appear in our "Recent Photos" feed. In anticipation of this we've increased JPG and PNG attachments to ~1MB per image.

Meet Katie

While both longofest and myself (arn) will be providing updates to the iPhone blog, we've also recruited one of our forum users (katie ta achoo) to relay some real life iPhone experiences with an ongoing hands on review. We promised her we'd pay for her iPhone + contract and sent her off to stand in line at an Apple Store in Houston. Her introductory post is available now: Say Hello to Katie

Wow, how do I get Katie's job?

c'mon, MacRumors, I am capable of writing intelligent, non-flaming, non-ignorant posts... ;)

-Clive

P.S. I can get the rest of the day off from work... ;)

Is there any way that this web site can be rigged to explode at 6:01 local time? That's the only appropriate ending I can think of to this coverage.

Um, hi, um, this is Kath... er... Katie, I just moved and changed my name and gender. MacRumors, please contact me for my information so I can get that shiny new iPhone... yeah... this is real and stuff...

Store Lines.

What I would really like to know is how long these lines are at the stores. ATT and Apple. I am not planning on getting an iPhone soon. But it would be interesting to pics of these lines in different areas.

I think this is what you want:

https://www.macrumors.com/iphone/ - recent photos posted to forums (including lines)
https://forums.macrumors.com/forums/104/ - Meetup forum
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/321495/ - Line count
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/321647/ - I'm in Line

Are the new Forums are going to be permanent? Just a thought

forums will likely be permanent. iPhone forum traffic is huge, and I expect it will persist to good degree after iPhone launch

Finally an iphone tab. Maybe we can move the iphone advertisements that come out every 5 minutes to that tab and just summarize them once/day for the main page.

Add to the MacRumors iPhone Blog, Forums, Reviews & more...

A state wide comparison where new iPhone owners can chime in with such info as...

1) small town outside Chicago, ILL. Voice calls great. Signal coverage fantastic. Web browsing on Edge, slow, battery life 5 hours

2) Charlotte, NC. Voice calls medium. Signal coverage fair. Web browsing on Edge, not bad, battery life 7 hours

3) New York, NY. Voice calls great. Signal coverage fantastic. Web browsing on Edge, fast with WiFi compliment, battery life 3.5 hours.

One gets the picture, but it would be great if there is a segment where one can go to get an idea how their new phone will work around the country and not just Apple and AT&T PR blowing smoke.

What do you think MacRumors? Or make it as a survey where one can see the results but maybe something where the average MacRumors visitor can compare based on the man on the street.:)
