I'm hoping the 2010 will be a bigger revision, so I'm going to skip the 3gs

If a mod reads this, add a poll please.

I'm holding out for the 2010 iPhone. I want to see a bigger revision, with a cosmetic change.

So you're hoping that the 2010 iPhone will add 7+ more features/improvements over the iPhone 3G S? What if it's a new case design and just 2 new features like the 3G was over the original?

I'm very happy with my 3G. The moment a 64gb iPhone hits, kapow, I'll be there, regardless of cost.

As much as it might mentally kill me to wait for the 3G S, I'm half tempted to wait it out till my 18 month point in december, see what rumors of new iPhone's exist and then i might wait the six MORE agonizing months and get the 2010 one:(

If you have a real job you can probably afford to buy a new one every year, don't wait!

I have the same phone as the OP and will be waiting until 2010 for my upgrade. It suits me perfectly fine now, and the 3Gs just doesn't have anything for me (other than a faster processor) that I can't wait for. Give it a year. It'll go quickly, believe me. :)

The iPhone 3G S rumors were pretty useless... you'd basically be waiting until the next WWDC.

That could change in a month when there are apps exclusive to the 3G S or just run very sluggish on older iPhones though :p

Ya, I do expect a bigger change next year, so certainly for those who aren't in a hurry (already have an iphone and don't care about or need the new features) it would make sense for them to hold off.

Unless you have a lot of disposable income, then just buy a new one every year and eBay your old one.

I expect that next year Apple will be forced to respond to features that some new competing phones and media players have. Features like OLED displays, HD video recording, etc.

I would expect next years iPhone to be a much bigger change than this year's.

i would wait for any future releases if its under 3 months. anything over that, i'm getting the current version. a year is alot of time to enjoy the iphone. and especially with iphone 3G going for about $400 on ebay, the upgrade cost is minimal... i break even if get the 16gb 3GS and pay an extra $100 for 32gb, which i did and it's coming this friday!!

This is complete bunk of course, and I'm sure you're being kind of sarcastic anyway. While I'm by no means rich, I'm comfortable enough to buy anything I want within reason. Getting into the upgrade-cos-it's-new cycle is a complete waste of money though.

This isn't to say there's anything wrong with upgrading, if some of the new features really float your boat, ace, upgrade away. Myself, my 3G does everything I currently want from a phone, while the 3GS is "merely" an incremental upgrade in my eyes. The processor/memory bump is nice, especially if gaming on it is your thing, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see stacks of 256mb only apps, or apps that run sluggishly on the old 3G.....but I use my iPhone purely for Safari, mail, videos/podcasts and the odd bout of Peggle, for which the 3G performs admirably.

Yeah I'm holding out until next years revision comes out. I don't want to pay full price for a iPhone 3Gs anyways. Hopefully by then we will have news if Verizon picks up the iPhone. I've always been a supporter of AT&T but after WWDC I hope Verizon picks it up!

I'm going to skip the 3Gs as I'm not eligible for upgrade until December. At that point I'm only about 6 months away from the 2010 model. I think there are lots of people that will follow this approach.

Realistically though it's pretty cheap to upgrade. I haven't seen a used 3G 16GB phone go for less than $350 on eBay if it is in decent shape. Many go for $400 or more if they are in good shape or include a few thrown in accessories.

So, $100-$150 to upgrade is really not a lot of money for many. In my case I don't pay a monthly bill for my phone so it's a pretty good deal for me.

That's a fair point actually. I can't be bothered though cos, like I say, there's nothing about the new one that I'm particularly excited about.

Landscape text and email, THAT I'm excited about :)

Personally, I'm waiting for the 2010 iPhone.

The 3Gs is nice ... but not blow $500 nice.

Exactly. I want a 64 GB anyway, and the minor bumps in specs aren't enough to make me pay $500 for this go around. Besides, coming back here to see all the people who bought 3GSs complaining that they can't get subsidized pricing will be classic.

I'm thinking by 2010 the iPhone will be on any carriers. As soon as that happens, bye bye AT&T. For now I'm going to get the 3G S⃣ and enjoy it for the next 12 months.

Hopefully next years iPhone will make the jump to 4G and be tons faster. By then my 3G AT&T contract will be up and I can upgrade on the cheap. The 3G is still the best phone I've owned so I can live with it for another year so long as I don't try the 3GS (ignorance is bliss)
