Can u link me with those boards? cause i would like to yea maybe purchase one and get some 10.4 on my imac

As another poster has already put up some links to boards, I won't.

The logic boards can be swapped after removing the bottom plastic and the metal cage underneath it. You'll be able to get at the drives, memory, and Airport slot easily too.
You need to knock holes out or mod for the Firewire and ext VGA because the older slot loads don't have the openings for these. This is fairly easy to do.

If you're not familiar with CRTs or analog TV tubes be very careful round the iMac CRT. It can potentially hit you with kilovolts without being discharged before hand. But the good news is that a logic board swap alone doesn't involve this. Just make sure the power is disconnected, not just shut off.

One more note about swapping logic boards, and I'll leave this alone, I swear. :p

A 350mhz iMac logic board can be upgraded to either a 400 or 500 mhz board without much work.

BUT, if you're tempted to plop a 600 logic board in there, be aware that you'll have to move the heat sink, which can turn an otherwise easy swap into a full fledged ordeal. It's not impossible, but it does take some jiggery pokery.

I say no, even if it's functional. You won't be able to use it for much of anything. Also, even if it was slightly useful, $15 seems too much. I've been offered similar machines for free on a couple occasions. Offer $5.

Personally, I'd never get anything like that. Even for free. My reasoning is that I have absolutely no use for it, nor am I a collector (I hate "stuff").

The thing is, unless you can come up with a good reason (be it geekery=Love tinkering with electronics) or a dedicated purpose (Oh, sweet, this thingamagic can be used as a [insert function]), I really see no reason to get that piece of plastic, metal and silicone.

Is this a real question? I'm not trying to be a meany or anything, but it's $15, that's like 3 gallons of gas. Sometimes MR members are silly. Who cares if it's worth it, it's $15.

I, for one, wasn't talking about how much $15 was, but how useful (or useless) the product itself were.

Would you buy 200 pounds of, say, scrap metal, just because you could get it for $15?

No, but I also wouldn't post a question on the scrap metal community forums asking if I should. They would probably say, "hey, it's $15 dollars, buy it if you want it, but don't post dumb questions about $15 dollar purchases."

It's $15 man, let's be real.

You utterly miss the point. Your "scrap metal forum" would be akin to an "Old Macintosh collector's forum", and that's not what this is, afaik.

The whole point is this: Why buy something, if one doesn't have any use for it – no matter how cheap it is?

Do you also buy something at the mall (or supermarket) _because_ it's on sale, even if you don't need it?

You're missing my point, I don't care about the purchase, I'm saying why pose a question where the result doesn't matter. If the guy doesn't need it he doesn't need it, if he needs it than he needs it. What's the point of the thread, to have us figure out if he needs a piece of junk? It sure seems like it. But all I'm saying is that for $15, do whatever you want to do, buy it and throw it away, buy it and run it over, buy it and run a business, but it's $15 who cares.

If there's a sale for shoes at the mall and shoes are $15 but none are my size, then I probably won't buy any, but I'm not going to jump on my iphone hurry onto a forum and ask people if they think I should spend my money.

Do you go online and ask us questions before you make every remedial decision in your life? i.e. Hey MR members, I was thinking of buying milk today...Do you think I should?!?!

There's one for sale locally, it has no KB/Mouse, but has 9.1 installed. It's an Indigo 350/7GB/128 CD. Is it worth it?

It would be great if you are making a movie or video set circa 2000. Most iconic-looking computer ever.

Unless, of course, you are making a movie about shoe clerks or Imelda Marcos.

x2 on that. Need it = buy it. Don't need it = don't buy it. Case closed.
