If you need an invite then PM me the nike id or email that gets the invite.

Soliciting ideas for next year as well.

Keep on running.

so for the year 2008 - where should the bar be set for the MacRumors Running team? 20,000 miles - 21,000 miles?

I think November was one of the best months from an output perspective and with people in and out - I think any challenge may be tough. What are peoples thoughts on that?

How about a 500 mile in the year challenge for those of us who know we're not going to get to 1000? Don't mind setting that one up if it makes it easier for you.

For the MR one - how about a round 25,000? Sure it's tough but hopefully we'll get a few more bods onboard in Jan and it's good to have a challenge that will stretch us?

We could try a 'run for your birth month'? Do winter babies run more or less than summer ones?

25,000 sounds like it is just out of reach, so it will be a good motivation to keep going.
Birth month is a good one.
Don't forget hemispheres re months for summer & winter.

All good suggestions - I will have to make them at least monthly.

Wow, 25,000 - that is quite a bit. A I stated November was probably our best month and we came close to 1,800 miles - the 25,000 would be more than 2,000 per month -with the current contingent keeping the same pace it would be next to impossible - vacations, injuries, etc. It would truly be a challenge - one that would challenge us to get some more folks...;) I am game if you guys are.

I know personally, unless I injure myself, I plan on running around 15 miles each week, maybe more, as my conditioning improves. Currently, I'm only doing 7-8/wk. So for my small part of the total, I'll be improving my input.

ALSO, I just registered for the Carlsbad 5000. ( http://www.eliteracing.com/carlsbad.html ) It'll be my first real race EVER!! :D It's April 6th. Anyone else here ever attend this particular event? And more importantly, anyone WANT to attend? I live a whopping 5 miles from the course and have a guest bedroom if someone wanted to run but $$ is an issue. And MOST important, my regular 'watering hole' is literally about 200 or 300 yards from the finish line!! I can already taste my first cold post-race beer!!!:p

And yes, I'll wear my Nike+ so the miles will count!!!

Like JimmyDreams I'm not running much at the minute having only just started, but I plan to run more as my fitness improves. I'm never going to run as far as the top guys here, but it'll all count towards the total.

I'm all for a stretching target so lets have a go at it!

.........Wow, 25,000 - that is quite a bit.......

OK.
What about 24,000:D
Maybe 20,000 is realistic.

It's one year today since I started running.
I've clocked up 1653KM (about 1000 miles).
20 people running 1000 will do it.

glad to see you've already planned out your first race. that's awesome

I will be slightly over 1500 since I started last 12/21, but don't know if I can do that again...

I invite close to 65 folks each month - we tend to have 25-30 runners consistantly, if we can get more consistant we could do it. I want to put something out there that is a challenge, but doable. Maybe we could do 25K miles - it is a nice round number ;) and it would be quite an accomplishment to boot.

Let's make it 25K - it's a good round number, it's a real stretch but might not be later in the year and it will keep all of us challenged.

Perhaps you could allocate different levels of runner unofficial targets to run for? This year I walked/ran 200. I'm going to try for 500 next year which would be a real stretch for me.

Perhaps if we all gave ourselves a stretch target to aim for, the 25K wouldn't seem so far away?

25000 is a lot but I think it's doable. We might end up with more runners than we have now, so we should set the bar high.

FWIW, 25000 sounds good to me too. I am going for 500 miles in 2008 also (which will be a stretch)...

FYI - for those attempting the 1000 miles in 2008, I have already set up a challenge for it. I originally set it up for myself, but figured there would be a large number of folks wanting the same push. You're all welcome to join in:

http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/?l=all_challenges,1089872891

thanks for doing that. hopefully more and more will join that challenge, and accomplish it as well

btw, i forgot to upload my 5 miles yesterday

Ok - so we will go with the 25,000 mile challenge.

Mudbug already set up a 1000 mile challenge (83.34 miles per month) for 2008.

I will set up a 500 mile one (that is what got me going last year) for the lower mileage folks (~42 miles a month if you were worried ;) )

Perhaps a 1500 (125 average per month) and a 2000 is possible (but that is ~167/month) - very few could do that one.

Let me know your thought on the year long resolution challenges.

Good work I think 83 miles a month is too much for me, as with other sports commitments I can only run 8 to 10 times a month. Most I've ever done in a month looking back is 100km (62 miles), but the average is more like 30 miles...... so 42 would be a great shout to push me on.
