Can you float me an invite for the 500 mile challenge? That would be a perfect one for me!!

Maybe a year from now I could attempt 1000/year. But right now, I know that if I tried, there would be an ambulance, knee surgery, and a psychological evaluation in my future!!:p

2.2 miles today.

My first run in the sun (who knew it gets out outside during the day?)
My first run while hung over (MNF beers)

Insert E.T. here saying "OOoooooooouuuuuuuucccccccchhhhhhhh!"

So maybe this isn't the right thread for this (or maybe it is) but...

Do you guys have advice for running in the cold. I find it miserable and can't get any motivation to run. Any advice on how to prepare, how to bear it, and how to recover?
Maybe some new gear is in order... ;)

gotta have the right gear. If you're cold all run long, it's miserable. But with a nice pair of windpants, 2 layers of shirts, thin gloves, and a lightweight hat, you start out a little bit cold, end up a little bit warm, but are quite comfortable for the most part.

Also, start out slowly - you'll feel better and avoid pulling muscles. As far as recovery, just make sure to stretch while you're still warm, and then hop in a nice hot shower. :)

Anyone notice that the time for runs to appear on the site seems to be getting worse and worse? I uploaded 2 runs a few hours ago and they're still not there!

ziwi, please also invite me to the 500 mile challenge for 2008.

I have also been noticing much longer lags for runs to appear on the nike+ website... :(

layers is the key. but you're going to have to start off cold, no matter what. after about 10 minutes you should warm up some. a hat is key to keeping you warm also, and gloves, but the hat especially.

i've also noticed that it's taking forever to upload as well. the site keeps getting worse it seems :(

We need someone to hop out of the elf challenge - it is too lopsided after 5 days. anyone? there is a 60 mile gap right now.

As far as the 2008 stuff - I will let everyone know when I set it up.

The 500 mile challenge. The groups are elves/reindeer/santas. It's so grossly lopsided in favor of the elves (in both absolute numbers and number of top runners) that it's kinda pointless right now.

If I get no volunteers by weeks end I can remove and re-add folks, but I can not force what team they join...

I'm pretty sure I joined the elves for that challenge but being as I haven't run yet this month I'm not sure it's worth me moving to a different team. Happy to if it helps though.

I took over an hour for my run to appear - it is sloowwwww.

Woo - 2 runs in one week. Go me! :)

congrats :) keep it up

well i did a track workout today in the cold (well cold here, not cold for most of you though) - anyways, i did a 4 x 1000 (meters) with 2:00 rest. times were 3:17, 3:15, 3:12, 3:08 - if anyone cares

tbh I've no idea if thats good or not - but they sound impressive times!

The colds not nice. Tonight was the first time I've been out with out a water proof on since I started. Think I'll have to pick up a pair of tracksuit bottoms as last time my legs got rather cold as it was so bitter. Britain in winter - lovely :/

I know what you mean about the winter. Pretty cold out there now isn't it! I've got a waterproof top but I've just been wearing shorts on my bottom half. I've only been doing 2.5k runs so I've not been out for too long though, but I think I need to get something to cover my legs now.

thanks. they're okay times. now if i could run all those without stopping......then i might be on to something

yeah i bet it's colder there for you than me. it's really not that cold here now.

You're a machine;)

thanks :)

yeah you might want to get something on your legs....and maybe try to go for a little longer runs?

anyone else having issues syncing data with Nike yesterday & today? My last two runs are on the ipod, but aren't being uploaded.

Mine get uploaded as Runs to the site straight away and contribute towards my personal "Goals" but the totals don't get added to the "Challenges" for at least a couple of hours (actually I normally get bored and wait until morning).

I tend to be uploading my runs at about 10pm UK time.

EDIT: Did my first 10km run for 6 months last night, not a great time (51:01) but pleased with the distance. Now need to focus on speed..... will speed training over 5km help me long term with my 10km speed?

Yeah, I do need to pick up the distance a bit. Going to go a bit further on my next run and try and build it up a bit (sensibly though!).

nice job on the 10k! :) yes, speed training will help. what workout did you have in mind exactly?

that's usually how mine work, but I'm having errors in iTunes saying the Nike site timed out. :( I'll keep trying...

i've read about others having issues similar to this as well. i hope apple is working on it though

glad to hear it! good luck! ;)
