Loving the phone and all of its new features, however this one I can't see me using. The main reason is that it can take longer than double clicking the home button, rendering it a bit pointless really.

I can see why it might be useful. You don't have to access the home button so your thumb is in position to select one of the multitasking tabs immediately.

my tip is have half your thumb off the screen, half on so you're really on the edge

I'm staying at home button double tap. Activating the app switcher via 3D Touch is slow, complicated and a nightmare.

I switched to light, which helped. Keeping half finger on also seems to make it easier. I have Apple case on phone and if I place edged of case in middle of finger and push to peek it appears then I don't swipe, rather I push harder to pop and comes up every time now. Works more consistently then peek and swipe for me.

Important feature to learn when they remove the home button in iPhone 7. That's my guess where this is all leading to. Getting us all used to alternate commands so transition to removing home button will be easier. Small steps, always small steps.

A little practice, it works 100% of time for me now. Like phone is teaching me how to use it. But have new problem now. When I use my iPad Air 2 I keep trying to do the 3 D Touch. Funny how we get used to things.

Oh, if you have not yet tried the push on keyboard to activate curser mouse, it's fantastic. I always had trouble with that little magnifier thing when placing curser for edits. Now it's super easy, thank you Apple designer who thought this up.

Ok; thought it was me. I had troubles as well but I have a semi thick case on it. But then again it's still inconsistent.

Is there a reason why we couldn't use it on the right screen edge?

Hoping for a iOS9.x setting for this.

The iOS 9 app switcher is rapidly becoming my least-liked aspect of the OS. Even without 3D touch it's very sensitive and prone to whizzing by with the lightest of taps.

The previews of the applications are always obscured by another app despite the extra size afforded by removing the "frequent contacts" section.

I fail to see how the current solution works better. It shows less of your apps than the previous one, makes it harder to properly select the application you want because it's so damned sensitive a tap is easily interpreted as a swipe sending a carousel of apps flying by and it just makes it plain harder to do the job.

I love the way iOS 9 works but the app switcher just doesn't add up. The old system was more efficient, gave us more information on the screen and definitely would've been easier to operate with 3D touch.

I think I've sort of got the hang of it now. I basically just have half my thumb hanging off and press, then swipe it over. So not as one action, almost like a press, pause, then swipe the rest of my finger onto the screen and across. Doing it as one action just goes back a page no matter how many times I try lol. The only downside is that to actually switch apps I have to swipe my finger to the whole other side of the screen, otherwise it'll just open the app switcher. That isn't always the easiest on a 6s+ lol.

3D Touch works well for me. I have a case on my 6s Plus with raised edges and it still works fine. It's a bit of a hassle when I'm in app such as Twitter and try to tap the edge and it gives me actions inside Twitter. Enjoying the phone immensely though.

I always thought this action looked a littl sluggish and janky. However, I have recently learned that if you just put enough pressure for a "peek" on the left edge of the screen, it takes about half a second and the multitasking tabs will show up. Before I would just press hard and slide over, using the go back a page gesture in Safari and pressing all in one motion; but I don't think it was intended to be operated this way. I don't have to have my thumb half off the screen or anything, although the top edge does not touch the screen when I do the gesture.

What took me the longest to get used to is lightly tapping a website link, as if you press too hard it will think you are going to do a peek, but you just aren't pressing he'd enough, then nothing will open. I have to have a light touch.

Have you tried going to settings > general > accessibility > 3dtouch and changing the sensitivity of the display? I've noticed having it on its lowest setting makes it far easier to pull up the app switcher.

I really hope Apple offers an option to switch function to the right side of the screen with the next update. It's almost impossible to do with my right thumb and that's the hand I use with my phone.

Hey, to everyone struggling with this here's a tip that worked for me:

I sat there and couldn't find a consistent movement either, until it finally worked, and it's essentially 100% for me now. Look at the lower left corner of your screen for a moment. Open a keyboard if you have to visualize what I'm about to say, but if you imagine you have a smudge that you want to wipe off between the very bottom of the "123", globe, and microphone key, swipe there. With just enough push as if wiping a smudge, exactly on that line.

You just made my day!!! This works great!!! Thanks. I was struggling before like others here have stated. Kudos to you.

Of course it's tricky as hell on the edges. You have the screen's frame there which is a lot sturdier than the middle of the display glass.

I finally got the hang of this, it's not that much pressure to the side of the screen WHILE almost immediately starting the slide. It's not about pressing hard and waiting for the switcher to activate. It's a press peek-level hard while swiping to the right.

I have a tip that I don't think has been mentioned in this thread. To switch apps using 3D touch, you don't even need to swipe. "Peek" press the far left side of the screen (without swiping) to have the apps start to move over, then you can slide your finger. Or, before sliding, you can press further to "pop" then have the app switcher fully display where you can let go and swipe through the apps.

I discovered this today with my phone being on 6.0.2 so not sure if it functioned the exact same way before today's update.

Takes some training to get it right. Effectiveness with different cases will vary. Not the greatest feature.
