I really like the uses of 3D Touch displayed in the video. However, not owning a 3D Touch capable phone, I'm not entirely sure what the difference between 3D Touch, and a long press (which would be avaialble on non 3D Touch phones) is. Is 3D Touch a significantly better experience than providing the same features using a long press?

I like the taptic engine. Is it a better experience? I believe so. There would definitely be less waiting for the sensitivity ranges than press...longer press...looooonger press. For example: mail...light press does peek and pop on an email. If you swipe left to right from there without releasing you can either mark or delete the message with the preview still up; or of you press even harder you go drop into the full message as we're all used to without having to go back to your mailbox. You could never do that with long presses without having a time limit on the peek & pop. And forget about the swiping with that in mind.

That's just one simple example. There are probably better ones that I haven't found yet, and even more yet to come. If there's one thing about 3D touch it's that I find most of the non-obvious stuff just experimenting.

OK, seriously, is that possible on a new iPhone? Because that would be awesome to do! Never thought about that.
No it isn't.

Makes me envy people with 3D Touch...

You're not missing anything. It does make 3D touch a little more interesting but I still probably won't turn it back on. The intensity of the flash is good though. I wonder if that's the only way you can change the intensity???

Off topic: This bloke in the video has a million apps on his phone. Why? Apple has suckered us into buying apps we don't really need.

Macrumors really posts a lot of 3D touch stuff. I wonder if you got the same email from Apple that a journalist friend of mine got about promoting that feature.
They post a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff...they must be getting a lot of emails from a lot of people/companies about a lot of things.

Year 6: How did we ever live without 3D Whiz? It's such an integral part of my tech experience. Wasn't it Samsung who had this first? If it was, Apple should fire Tim. If it wasn't, then it doesn't matter, when you think about it there was no invention here because it was such an obvious feature. Apple trying to patent touching things again!

You misspelled "6" in "Year 6". It is properly spelled "3".

But still no 3D touch on the WiFi or Bluetooth in control center and that takes you to the specific part in Settings.
Why??

They are focusing so much on 3D Touch yet recently introduced the SE which lacks this feature!

I hope they eventually come out with a 4" screen that has a higher PPI screen and 3D touch. It might keep me in the Apple sphere a little longer.

A big limit in the use of 3dTouch in IOS 9 is that is not available in Spotlight Result (and in Siri Suggestions..): if you press the result of a Spotlight Search, nothing happens.
Is this feature avalaible in IOS 10?

Thankyou

I just tested this with Spotlight search results. It works great! You can preview emails or messages before fully opening them, for example.

Dam...!!

3D Touch has exploded everywhere.... soon we'll be starting to say "Who ever needs menu's anymore....just as long everyone is forced to use an iPhone 6s or later if u wanna use a future version iOS we can eliminate the menu system and go 3D Touch crazy"

Still the concern is always what options while i have

I have to admit, 3D Touch while a neat feature in theory, has not seen much use on my phone at all, for me it's just counter intuitive, and I always forget it's there.
I find myself "remembering" I have it sometimes as well. I still double click the crap out of my home button like it's not there.

I have an Apple Watch so I get notifications through that. I think I will still happily live without all this stuff for a good while longer. I value pocketability and simplicity above these bells and whistles at this point, (since I have to choose between them).

I don't know if Apple are being will fully lame, but using the Android quick settings menu and being able to see and choose different Wifi or BT settings is amazing

Why can't Apple use the 3D Touch to show the top 3 strongest networks around you or the closet BT devices

Also the DnD button can have different settings, say for next 10 or 20 mins or 1 hour. The Flight Mode button can also be to just turn off 3G, as I've wanted to do multiple time, but keep Wifi and BT on

I never used 3D Touch on iOS 9 and found it pointless.
With iOS 10, I find myself using it pretty often.

That being said, I still don't understand the difference between long press and 3D Touch... Sometimes they both bring different menus, but with pretty much the same options...

Long press will do the same thing to activate Live Photos as a 3D Touch gesture will but it will not activate the 3D peek and pop look at your emails. I don't know about other 3D Touch gestures, as I guess it depends on the app, but it's likely the long press often does nothing where a 3D Touch gesture would activate a certain feature set.

Thank you very much.
I usually search the App (obvosiusly already installed) with Spotlight. If you press on an app found by spotlight you can view the App's pop-up options ?
Tanks again

I'd have to say people complaining about 3D Touch are those who have never used it or are people that have a 3D Touch phone but haven't taken the time to get used to using it. Granted it's not as good as it could be, but if you're complaining about "simplicity", a lack of it, how simple is it to 3D Touch to get instant feedback or instantly get to where you want with having to do a bunch of tapping to accomplish the same? iOS is going to make 3D tough even better and make the phone easier and more "simple" to use. Don't complain because it's something new and you don't want to take the time to use it.
