3g camera "lens" stays closed

Googling hasn't turned up much.

My iPhone 3g, fw:3.1.3, bb: 06.15, jailbroken, camera stopped working a couple of weeks ago and nothing seems to help. Re-installing fw did nothing: immediately after fresh install, before jailbreaking or anything else, it still would not work. When I start the camera app all seems normal except the "lens" never opens.

Any help would be appreciated

Did you try a fresh restore? (Settings up as a new device and not restoring your old data?)

Yes, except I chose what fw I wanted. 4.2.1 had poor battery life so I chose 3.1.3. But I tested the camera before anything else had been installed or any other apps replaced from backups.

When I went to the Apple Store, I saw someone with the same issue. Apple had to replace it for them.

The camera is fairly easy to replace, if you watch the videos on how to take the phone apart. I’m sure someone is selling the part or you can just buy a damaged phone for parts.
