Will i be able to get a replacement iPhone? I can either drive 65Miles and take it to a store, and then 65miles back, or send it too apple by post, which is the best option?[/QUOTE]

The crack will get worse and more dust will get in, so I'd change it.

They'll swap it over in store if it's inside warranty. I'm not sure if they're still running the post collection service though it's not without hassle. You have to be in to receive an envelope from UPS, then post it back and be in again for delivery. And they might charge a fee.

Thanks, I will arrange a day to drive down to the shop.

Back with a new iphone! ( well a refurb lol)

She checked out the iphone, and replaced it, after seeing the dust and crack.

quick and simple! got to love apple!

I must say that I have damaged my iPhone twice and after the second time I bought the insurance...glad I did because I dropped my 3rd into the drink a week ago...no worries.

Newly Manufactured iPhone 3GS

I had a dominant crack near my headphone jack. There were several other hairline cracks in the same area as well. The Apple Genius recommended that I replace my phone. I was given a "newly manufactured phone that may or may not have recycled components." Externally, the phone looks brand new. Hopefully, the recycled components (if there are some in there) are in good shape, too.

I was so happy that the Apple Genius made the whole process go so smoothly. I had noticed the crack when it was just a hairline crack. However, over time and with using the headphone jack, the hairline crack worsened to the point of an official crack.

I just wanted to share the "it's a newly manufactured phone that may or may not have recycled components" verbiage with everyone...thought someone might find it interesting.

Cheers,

Linda

Going to see a genius

I've had my Black 3GS for a few months now and it has developed a severe crack between the jack and ring switch. Booked an appointment at an apple store. Hopefully they'll replace it

Hi,

First to say hi, cause I'm new to this forum.

SO to my problem. My 6 month old black 3GS's case cracked from volume buttons to the side of the screen (silver part).

Crack is really annoying since thin plastic part of casing is now bending out and it really bothers me. Is this a case for warrant replacement of my iphone?

And now here is a problem. Can I change my phone wherever I want or must it be changed in the same country as it was bought in?

I'm asking you this becouse I leave in Europe and I bought my iPhone in USA.

Please help me with advise.

Thanks for your answers

Bye!

So is the general consensus here that Apple will replace your iPhone if you have hairline cracks in your casing? I just noticed that my 3G has hairline cracks by the ringer switch and up by the SIM card. To me, it's not that huge of a deal (especially since I'm eligible for an upgrade in August). Plus, my phone is currently JB, so I know I would have restore the phone back to it's original settings before bringing it to my local Apple store.

Also, for those of you who have brought your iPhone into an Apple store and your phone is out of warranty, have they given you a replacement free of charge, no questions asked? Additionally, did you schedule a genius appointment, or were you able to just walk into the store and have someone look at it?

Only way to get time with a Genius in my local apple store is to reserve an appointment ahead of time. I have had my 3G and 3GS each swapped twice due to this problem. Each time it was no hassle, no questions, and no cost to get it taken care of. :apple:

Just out of curiosity, were your 3G and 3GS in or out of warranty when they were replaced?

I have hairline cracks on my white iPhone 3GS, those who made the appointment and got a new iPhone, how was the experience like? what did you say? let me know, I'm thinking of booking an appointment with Apple Genius!

For the record, its one year warranty am i correct?

I have a crack on bottom where charger plugs in...around the little speakers down there.

I have one bad one down by my dock and a small one starting on the headphone jack.

Phone hasn't been dropped and has been in a case since I took it out of the box.

I have an appointment at the Genius bar later, I hope they replace it, I take really good care of my iPhone.

Has anyone been denied?

Orange PAYG iPhone 3GS

Hi, I have the same cracks around my headphone socket and also a small one has appeared near the edge of the camera lens. I bought the iPhone at an Orange store, and it's still got 7 months left on the warranty. Can I make an appointment at an Apple store to get it looked at or do I need to go back to Orange (who I've found are usually most unhelpful in these circumstances)?

Many thanks for any advice.

In the US you go to Apple, not sure if the UK is the same.

My 3G was denied because it was past the 1yr warranty. I had to order the back plate and replaced it myself. Not for the faint at heart.

Just an update incase anyone cares, I took it in yesterday and I wasn't even done explaining my issue as the Genius was looking at it, they said ok and went and got me a new one.

I was done in about 5 minutes.

hey guys i have a 16gb white 3gs

I live in boston, so im guessing there may be some signs of water if i take it in. there are some cracks on it but my phone is kinda scratched up from regular use. do you think they will still replace it?

So I got a 5mm crack from the dock connector up...

seems like it will be an easy replace via apple from what you guys write in here.

BUT
my iphone is registered for development and running 4.0 beta 2

will that be a problem?

Apple Rocks

Made an appointment today because there was a crack on the back, near dock connector. Without any questions, guy at the genius bar offered to replace. So that was a plus. Unfortunately, they didn't have any 32gb white phones in. I am assuming he meant refurb, so was told to come back tomorrow. On the work order it says...

Item # 661-5266, Iphone 3GS, 32GB, White, AR-USA...is the the refurb, or are they giving me a new one? Either way I am happy, really good customer service.

And as far as the leaked Iphone...They were told to say they know nothing about it...haha

I have a crack from my dock connector halfway to the FCC information on the back. I have a black 8GB 3G I got last January, so it's out of warranty. I just discovered this crack yesterday, as I always keep it in the case. Will the apple store replace this or no? I've perused the forum and haven't got a straight answer from any of the responses.

Since I'm a valued customer, I already have upgrade eligibility and plan to get the new iPhone this summer, but wanted to pass this 3G on to a family member. It'll be wack to pass it on with a prominent crack like this.

Thanks.

I can confirm that Apple's policies vary among "Geniuses." I made appointments at two Apple Stores, and was denied replacement for the same crack that you describe. A colleague, however, was granted replacement with a phone older than mine, and that Genius evidently told him the crack is a structural defect.
