Call your Credit Card Company

I find myself telling people this constantly because often times they don't even know they are covered. Tell the card company what ever you want, but for the majority of people, not everyone - their credit card company includes some sort of warranty or insurance on anything purchased.

And if I'm wrong, in the end it can't hurt to give it a try...:)

My original iPhone took many hard falls over the past year.. the screen never cracked. I had the 3G for about 2 weeks now and I dropped it once from maybe 3-4 feet tops, picked it up and was extremely surprised at what had happened. It still works perfectly fine, the touch screen works as if it wasn't smashed.

when u drop something i dun care how high u drop it or how u drop it
JUST dont be surprise when phone gets fcked...
FFS, its a phone its fragile...any phones nowadays are all like this
and i dun think cellular companies nowadays account for how strong the housing is...how durable it is..rather its all about the features the phone has to offer
if ur not gonna be careful just go back carrying the brick cellphones in the 1990s! they got good padding i here!

Question... I've never bought (nor needed) insurance on my cell phones, so I never really looked into what they cover. Does AT&T offer the same insurance on the iPhone that they've tried to sell me with my other phones? And if so, would it cover something like this?

I don't blame people for dropping their phones, I blame :apple: for not putting some kind of a hand-strap onto the iPhone, or at least a place where you could tie on a hand-strap. :apple: obviously wants people to drop their phones, because if they do and the phone breaks, they get more money from repairs/replacement...etc...

I don't want to believe that the original poster's phone got that damaged from 3-4 feet, but you really never know, he might not be lying. I've dropped my phone 3-4 TIMES, and it hasn't cracked yet. Maybe mine has landed differently or some other unknown chaos factor.

AT&T doesn't offer insurance for the iphone. Applecare does, however it's more of an extended warranty than insurance.

This is hilarious, a hand strap on an iPhone. :D

If people want that, buy a case.

AT&T unfortunately does not offer insurance on the iPhone, nor anything classified as a smartphone.

What I recommend to people is getting an warranty with accidental damage coverage from Squaretrade. The cost for 2 or 3 years of coverage is about the same as the monthly cost you'd be charged for insurance from AT&T if they offered it. The bad news is, you're paying it all up front, but you can usually get discount codes that soften the blow quite a bit.

This worries me somewhat, as I have dropped old phones several times, causing dents and scratches. However, in the 15 months I've owned my iPod touch it has never been dropped (probably because I've always kept in a case attached to my belt). I hope my new iPhone 3g doesn't suffer the same fate as other phones.

Im calling your BS man

theres no way that happened from 4 feet

most of the phones dropped at that distance have a single impact point and then it spiders out from that point

that looks like it was tossed, hit the floor several times, stepped on, or you had fun cracking the glass several times after the inital breakage

my first iphone was dropped from about 4 feet ( didnt take any pics) but it looked like this

that image is from a user who also dropped it from about 3-4 feet

Sir he wasn't asking for your opinion as to whether or not he dropped it from that height. How about showing some respect and helping this guy out.

To the OP: I'd just suggest taking it to the Apple store, explain the situation, and see what they say. My sister dropped her first gen iPhone and it kept getting an "invalid SIM" error. She told the truth to the geniuses and they replaced it for free. Good luck.
