It. Is. The. Same. Crap. Speeds. On. All. Verizon. Smart. Phones.

Why do people think that it's a per device thing?

When you have lived for almost 4 years with EDGE speed on an iPhone, "crappy" Verizon 3G speed will be a blessing.

Why do verizon customers think the power of the big red will overcome all the flaws and drawbacks they KNOW ABOUT BEFORE PURCHASING

people complain about the antenna issue...known issue MONTHS before you purchased!

now they complain about the 3G speed...something there has been data on forever. Verizon has slow 3G. They always have. The iPhone is a great phone, but it isn't magical. It can't fix that.

CDMA- Better for voice
GSM- Better for Data.

This is to be expected. I bet you wont drop a call! :p

Can you download the speedtest.net app and take a screen shot and show us how bad? Thanks

Total noob here.. can you tell me how to do that and how to UL it?

I can tell you what I got though and you can take my word for it.

.29mbits dl
.46 mbits ul

I don't know where you live in Jersey, but where I am (North Jersey), my family/friends' Verizon smartphones are consistently faster than any AT&T smartphone I've had, including the iPhone. At home I'm lucky to get 1mbps, whereas everyone I know on VZW gets at least 2mbps.

At work, AT&T is totally out of the question, especially since Verizon recently installed a cell tower 50 feet from the building. I'll be glad to finally be able to use my cell phone at work, as will the many people switching from AT&T to Verizon (as the vast majority of people here have iPhones).

Ok - so your data speed is not 8Mb Down and 4Mb up -- but can you make a phone call on your I-Phone?

Yeah some of us can, in fact I never drop calls excpet on the beach, here in LA! I get great service, and fast data speeds. Don't hate. ;)

My download speed, on average, at work is .02 mbps and my upload is .1 mbps. Since that's where I spend most of my time on the weekdays, as BryanLyle said, anything is an upgrade, with no dropped calls as a huge bonus.

my verizon speed was actually almost the same download and faster upload as my att iphone right next to each other and testing at the same time. in about 10 miles from BWI airport and downtown baltimore, so not in a rural area.

i posted the actual numbers in the vz vs att thread.

Interesting cause I'm in LA and always dropped calls on my AT&T iPhones. Ever go to Silverlake with AT&T? A total joke! And our house up in Big Bear? Nada! Nothing! AT ALL! I'll be much happier on Verizon. :D

The less congested an area you live in the faster at&t's 3G speeds are. In Colorado at&t's 3G is easily faster than 1.5mbps DSL. Verizon is much slower. When I travel back to my hometown in Northern VA I'm appalled at the speed. It takes me twice as long to do anything that requires data. Best decision I ever made was moving away from the hell hole.

im running on my home network wi-fi

89 ping
20.15 Mbps down
3.58 Mbps up

on 3G

558 ping
0.06 Mbps down
0.06 Mbps up

hmmm.....
You're comparing Wifi to 3G? Really!? *facepalm*

my droid x on verizon consistently gets slower 3G speeds compared to my iphone 4 on AT&T.

im getting about 4.0Mb/s down and 2.0 Mb/s up on AT&T
while verizon is getting about 1.5 Mb/s down and .7 Mb/s up

The ping times seem to be better on verizon though.

[EDIT]
The speed tests were done via tethering to my MBA

AT&T Minneapolis, MN

1.9 down, 1.34 up. 260ms ping.

I think I'll wait for an LTE iPhone before I switch to Verizon. Coverage sucks badly in some areas, but it's pretty fast in places where it works (which, honestly is most places)

LTE on Verizon will mean fast speeds and good coverage (for me), so I'll wait.
