Marginally better than mine here in DC and I'm on AT&T

1.17 Down
.46 Up

Not all that much better for me either, even with five bars in DC.

this is a stupid thread and needs to be renamed/recentered.

It is absolute pure FACT that AT&T's network is faster. Verizon's CDMA network will not beat it in it's current iteration, but thats not the issue here.

[EVERYONE WHO HAS GOOD AT&T SERVICE CAN NOW TUNE OUT, THANK YOU]

Yes at optimal performance/signal AT&T will hands down beat Verizon. The real issue here is how often do you actually get that optimal service? I live in NYC and while I have near full signal most places I go, I have little to no data service. So to me Verizon was a no brainer, because even if the Verizon service is just as crappy, at least ill also be able to make calls that dont drop.

Again, the issue here is not the speed that random people on this board are able to achieve, it's how often can you achieve that speed, constantly, in daily use...and in NYC it's verizon all the way.

I agree with this statement. Can you let us know where in NYC you are and post a speed test with your results? Would be much appreciated.

i say unless you can post the speed of the vz and att phones side by side, then its like compairing apples to oranges....or maybe red delicious to granny smith...lol

im quite sure there are going to be areas around here where i will get super fast speeds on my att phone, but once im 50 mles away from here, it spends more time on the edge network than 3g.

Have fun on Verizon. I feel bad for current Verizon customers, but anyone who switched from ATT because of media hype... Have fun with slower speeds. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of money it costed you to switch. Contract termination + ridiculous verizon voice packages + forcing a $30 data package + the iPhone itself + getting the iPhone 5 in 2 years, or early contract in 20 months! Have fun with the iPhone 6!

Dude, why do you care what carrier people use with their iPhone?

There are reasons other than data speed people are choosing Verizon.

You want to know why I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Verizon iPhone? Come to where I'm located right now at work and try to make a call (or access data) on your AT&T phone. Just try. Go ahead. I'll wait.... You can't. You can't because your phone will say "No service." There is NO usable AT&T signal inside the building at work. None. Not for Blackberry users, iPhone users, Android users, dumb-phone users. Nada. Zip. No calls... sorry. Not unless you hang out an open window (if you can find a window that will open). AT&T, and T-Mobile for that matter, does not penetrate the structure here at work.

Verizon, however, has a tower right outside and the building is saturated with 5 bars of VZW service. While I don't know where Sprint's tower is, there's 3-4 bars of Sprint inside, too, but that's beside the point. In 6 years I've worked here, I've heard of no plans for AT&T to add a tower or improve service inside and around the building. And while I don't really feel like naming where I work, let's say its one of the largest employers in my area - so not some little storefront with poor cell service.

I carry a Verizon HTC Droid Incredible with me when I'm at work so I can make and receive calls when necessary.

So, not everyone is changing from AT&T because of data speeds.

I see you were also sold on that "the nations best network" propaganda.

All cellphone providers suck in one way or another, too expensive, spotty service and data, Verizon and AT&T are no better.

you are jailbroken and that might affect the performance of your device, don't blame AT&T

Actually this is what I get at home, my speeds are always between 3-4Mbps down, nothing wrong with my device or service.

BTW jailbreaking has never affected my data speeds on my iPhone, iPhone 3G, 3GS and iP4.

I wasn't sold on anything. Inside the building at work, Verizon users can make and receive calls. AT&T users get "No Service" displayed in their screens. Period. End of discussion. Everyone who works here knows this.

I'll be happy to post a screenshot showing the "No Service" or "Searching..." indicator on the phone if you insist.

Outside and at home it's a different story. But perhaps unlike you I actually need to make and receive calls at work (my handle should give you a hint why). I spend upwards of 15 hours a day at work sometimes. The phone is necessary.

I see, how awful your speeds are. Now, go ahead and move onto Verizon.

The main problem is that it's completely hit and miss. Northern Virginia is almost completely blanketed in 3G according to AT&T's website, but I commonly get signal that ranges from this kind of crappy all the way up to 4-5mbps. It's just totally unreliable.

I'd settle for less top-end and a little more stability, but the FAN discount I'm getting on AT&T right now kind of precludes me moving to Verizon.

at&t in nyc is never consistant... and 1.5mps is plenty fast for a phone !!

im so tired of at&t and there so called speeds of .02-.04mps!!

now mind you.. this is tested midtown ny Grand Central !! a major HUB in NYC... i mean 4real cant even get .5mps

i cant wait to pick up my verizon iphone !! on the 10th..

lots of things can slow down an iPhone as I was recently told at one of Apple stores in Houston and they are but not limited to:
1. Jail breaking
2. The amount of Apps/songs/iTunes media on the device
3. saved pictures fron Safari (delete your porn stash and it might get faster)
4. HD videos saved on the device
5. not clearing the cache
6. not restarting the device daily
7. not having the latest software or carrier update installed
8. viruses on non itunes music or emails (and wallpapers!)
9. several apps on multitasking tray
10.not in range of cellular signal

and about 20 other things the Apple associate mentioned to me

Ah

AT&T Minneapolis, MN

1.9 down, 1.34 up. 260ms ping.

I think I'll wait for an LTE iPhone before I switch to Verizon. Coverage sucks badly in some areas, but it's pretty fast in places where it works (which, honestly is most places)

LTE on Verizon will mean fast speeds and good coverage (for me), so I'll wait.

Weird. I visited one of our out of the metro offices in Buffalo Minnesota last
friday and was getting 3g speeds of 5.45 Mbps down and 1.50 Mbps up.

Not bad for AT&T but I don't get those speeds in Minneapolis proper.

Yes you were.

Fine. You win. I don't feel like arguing. Guess you showed me, since it seems to matter so much to you what carrier I choose. You bring it, girlfriend. You're right - AT&T and Verizon have 1000% equal service here. Even though 10,000 employees concur that they don't.

T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon may as well just close up shop since the only carrier anyone needs according to you is AT&T.

I've got my AT&T iPhone 4 in my hand (showing exactly 1 bar) and I'll happily swap it out when the VZW one comes tomorrow. And I'll be able to get calls at work.

But I guess I'm wrong since you work here with me you know better. I guess your AT&T handset works better than mine. Mine must be broken. Just like the 3GS before it.

Or maybe I'm just holding it wrong.

[EVERYONE WHO HAS GOOD AT&T SERVICE CAN NOW TUNE OUT, THANK YOU]

No.

The real issue here is how often do you actually get that optimal service? I live in NYC and while I have near full signal most places I go, I have little to no data service.

To me, the experience in the same areas is very different.

But again, to each his own. Everyone has a different experience from others, but it should be an (almost) non issue now, because now the iPhone is on both networks. So you can use what's best for you... just don't go pushing and assume that what's good for you is good for everyone else.

Is Verizon too slow? Weigh the speed with AT&T's coverage and performance in your area. If it's worse, then be happy with what Verizon gives you. if not, maybe you shouldn't be on Verizon then.
