Anyone else noticing HORRIBLE 3g speed?

Please list your state and rate your speed.

NJ- HORRIBLE!

Why are you surprised?

This has been known for a while now, Verizon has really slow crappy 3G speeds, not only is it slow as ****, but you can't do voice and data simultaneously, and they are capping speeds for the 5% of heavy data users...

You should've done yer research, but thanks for choosing Verizon wireless and relieving ATT's network

I get poor AT&T speeds

My phone is still on some UPS truck making the rounds...no doubt purposefully leaving me last!! ....but to the question at hand, this is not a surprise. I've had my Droid (soon to be ex-phone in a few hours) since launch and my d/l speeds would normally top near 1.8mbps ...my average was usually 800kbps-1.3ish mbps. u/l speeds are always uniform near 500kbps. That won't change with the iPhone....it's not Apple that determines what speeds you get. I'm in the New York suburbs....and so it is pretty saturated even on Verizon and speeds are slower than in rural areas....nevertheless compared to what at&t is offering in this area, it's just not even up for debate. I'll GLADLY take my slow 1mbps connection than no connection at all.

my droid x on verizon consistently gets slower 3G speeds compared to my iphone 4 on AT&T.

im getting about 4.0Mb/s down and 2.0 Mb/s up on AT&T
while verizon is getting about 1.5 Mb/s down and .7 Mb/s up

The ping times seem to be better on verizon though.

[EDIT]
The speed tests were done via tethering to my MBA

I also have a Droid x an an AT&T iPhone and experience the same. Although ping times are better via vzw AT&T still loads a page faster.

AT&T Minneapolis, MN

1.9 down, 1.34 up. 260ms ping.

I think I'll wait for an LTE iPhone before I switch to Verizon. Coverage sucks badly in some areas, but it's pretty fast in places where it works (which, honestly is most places)

LTE on Verizon will mean fast speeds and good coverage (for me), so I'll wait.

You said it works in most places then why would you switch to Verizon?

Lol Verizon already with terrible reviews. shock.

NO WAY YOUR VERIZON IPHONE IS SLOW? Everyone knows Verizons 3G service is only a minor step from ATT's EDGE service. I live in the Dallas, Ft. Worth Metroplex and get

3.8 down

1.2 up

Have fun on Verizon. I feel bad for current Verizon customers, but anyone who switched from ATT because of media hype... Have fun with slower speeds. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of money it costed you to switch. Contract termination + ridiculous verizon voice packages + forcing a $30 data package + the iPhone itself + getting the iPhone 5 in 2 years, or early contract in 20 months! Have fun with the iPhone 6!

Anything under 2 Mbps for download is poor, I don't see what you're happy about

I'd be thrilled with a stable 1.5mbps. My peak AT&T speeds may be higher, but it's a total crapshoot as to whether it will actually connect in the first place.

For the record, current 3G speed in my home:

401ms ping
0.36 mbps down
0.10 mbps up.

yes

and I can use data while on the call to boot.

I'm not sure what an "I-Phone" is, but I can make calls great on my iPhone with AT&T and haven't dropped a call since I can remember. Good thing Verizon finally got the phone so we can add arguments about whose carrier is best on here.

Well according to the Verizon people on this thread those numbers are about the peak of Verizon's 3G service.

And what do you know...at&t isn't automatically the road runner of telecos all the time either! Yes, at&t offers better speeds in places where they actually can function as a proper service provider and not just pretend they do. That's their selling point. IF at&t gives you amazing speeds, no dropped calls, reliable coverage then by all means GO for them! I would switch to them in a heartbeat if that's the kind of service they provided in my area. They simply don't. This is really rather simple, and moving away from childish retors like "my phone company can beat your phone company's ass" is a first much needed step. Pick the carrier that works for you in your area! This is exactly how it should be!

The iPhone is the phone, you pick the radio-juice that flows through it. But that's the whole point, you actually now have a choice to pick someone else if that someone else gives you your money's worth in good coverage or you can switch to someone else if they are better than the competition. I could care less about these companies, they simply let my phone make calls....I'll pick the one that lets me do that, you pick the one that works for you. Why do these turn into flamewars? How absurd! You now have a choice, pick whoever you like!

From my desk near Scottsdale Rd and the 101 (new AT&T cell site right across the street)

Verizon:
Ping 196 ms
Dn 737 kbps
up 741 kpbs

AT&T:
Ping 602 ms
Dn 1110 kbps
up 43 kbps

NJ- HORRIBLE!

In other news... AT&T's 3G service has reportedly improved in NJ since many iPhone data hogs have since moved over to Verizon.

Yes, I can also say my Verizon speeds are:

401ms ping
0.36 mbps down
0.10 mbps up

However, that doesn't make it true now does it. Now a nice screen capture is nice.

Iphone 4 on att has no HSPA+ antenna idiot!

Enjoy your time-out

As per the thread.... I'll continue enjoying my 3G speeds thank you very much.

The only reason I'm even contemplating moving to Verizon is b/c in the middle of the day (every day) in my SoHo office my speeds look like the following. I know it has to do with congestion but it's really frustrating. AT&T said there will be 50 new towers accessible from my office as of this Spring but who knows.

EDIT: I should also mention that my speeds early in the morning are around 2.5 Mbps which is another reason I know its congestion.

You're right. I've been here for five years and clearly I would pull this information out of my ass to get a rise out of a bunch of strangers.

I will enjoy my Verizon 1.5 everywhere. You enjoy your AT&T speeds in only Metro areas with dropped calls.

Verizon FTW
