Why would you make an excuse for AT&T saying they are just having hiccups and should have everything up to speed soon? They knew the 3G iphone was coming out months ago....why would they not work to get the hiccups worked out beforehand?

Consumer activism has gone by the wayside and been replaced with the need for the shiniest new piece of technology.

Dont make excuses for them....demand that the service is good and correct when you spend your money!

And that makes them exempt from having problems with the addition of 400k new phones? Please. Perhaps you're the only person in the world who can put together a piece of furniture without problems in the given time frame, but I don't expect it to be fabulous yet. Wait a week.

Your so-called consumer activism is most likely starting an online petition? Besides, consumer activism also sometimes has the problem of overreaction to a problem, causing more trouble than it sought to rectify.

fluctuating....

started off really poor (right across the water from midtown Manhattan in NJ)

Was getting 30-60K in a few tests.
Switched from that website everyone is using and going with dslreports.

Last nite: 375 and 515K. Just now got 379K.

It's getting better. They are probably working out the kinks.

I'll be plenty satisfied with this range if it holds up. Edge I found to be really annoying when I needed to access something via the web.

Yes, they should have had everything together before the launch. I can understand if it were a product that is not built up like the iphone is but, when you announce a product a month ahead and have people camping out for 24 hours to get it you should have your sh** together. Period.

Actually no, my idea of consumer activism is not to purchase shoddy merchandise that is touted as being something it is not. That goes for many things, not just the 3G iphone. You want to make a difference and have the products you purchase and the service you receive better? Write a personal letter to the President of the company and explain your complaints in detail and give the reason for not purchasing their product. Otherwise, deal with the issues and bitch about the speeds being too slow, or the screen not lining up, or the GPS not having turn by turn.

Your choice.

You can convince yourself of that all you want, but you know what they say: easier said than done. And that applies here. You think they didn't try to get it working? You think Apple didn't try to get activation to run smoothly? This reflects negatively on their companies, they don't want it to happen. These things happen, it's called the real world. Piece A does not always fit perfectly into Piece B. And most of the time, you find this out after you try, if you catch by non-inuendo drift.

So how did your iPhone 3G return go?

How many 3G devices are in America right now? Probably under 1,000,000. And that's including people that use / don't use 3G.

Now, what happens when you add roughly 300,000 more 3G devices within a weekend? It's going to have issues, regardless. AT&T doesn't know what will happen to it's network. You can't forecast something like that either.
