3G support group - surviving the extra 30 days

WAAAAAAAAHH!!!!!! The big Launch Day is a SATURDAY!!!!!!! AGH!!! I WORK on Saturdays!!! Fortunately, not all day, so I will have to get up early-early-early to get over to the Apple store to wait in line and get my iPad before then going off to work in the afternoon.
 
This is awesome. I live in Canada and since the Wi-Fi comes out simultaneously with the 3G I no longer have a choice but to wait. Problem solved.
 
pros cons of 3G vs wifi

Is there a thread here that details the pros and cons as people see them between the two devices? I tried searching, but nothing came up.

Tivoboy, no not that I've seen. But I'll give you the pros and cons in my eyes.

So 3G has everything Wifi has. It's the same exact device. Except, in addition, it has a 3G MicroSim Card Slot and a GPS chip (which is possibly included on the 3G chip itself).


16GB Wifi - $499
16GB 3G - $629

So, basically, if you want 3G service, or GPS capabilities, you need the 3G one. The only other difference is price for $130.

That's why I'm getting the 3G. Mostly for the GPS. And also, the option to use the 3G is there, which is most likely what I'm gonna do.
 
I'm holding out for the 3G. I don't want to be kicking myself getting wifi and then wishing I had the other model. Besides, what's an extra 30 days? How long did we ever dream of something like this? To me.... an extra 30 deals isn't a deal breaker.

hmm yea im not sure yet.... i have my mobile + 500mb a month for use when i am away from wifi - i might just go WiFi model.
 
I feel lucky, being in Canada the iPad is released a month later. Meaning WiFi and WiFi + 3G released at the same time.
 
Aside from GPS, could someone explain the differences between WiFi and 3G. I assume there is a difference in speed and areas of coverage, am I correct? Any other differences?
 
I want one NOW and WON'T be able to wait for the 3G version even though that's the one I really want!!!!!!!!! And I live a block away from an Apple Store!!!!!!!! I will not be able to be strong enough ------I'm done for!!!

Er, what difference in "areas of coverage"? WiFi is only available in WiFi hotspots, so the concept of "areas of coverage" don't really apply to WiFi. And sure, WiFi is usually a lot faster than 3G, but exact speed will depend on the type and quality of the internet connection at each hotspot. As for any other differences between the 3G and the WiFi only model, I'm not aware of any.

EVERYONE DON'T FORGET: The 3g version has that fugly black plastic part that wraps around to the front.

IMO, that is a fairly big con for me. Sorry if I pushed some of you fence sitters back to WIFI. I have an iPhone, so WIFI for me. I've officially decided after much back and forth. It feels good to finally know. Preorder next Friday for me!

Plus if it turns out I want 3g/gps, I can always get the next version and give this one to my wife. She is thinking about getting one so maybe I'll sell her on taking mine next year?

yup wifi for me too, i have my nokia e63 for general emails/web browsing whilst away from networks (which isnt very often).

Plus if it turns out I want 3g/gps, I can always get the next version and give this one to my wife. She is thinking about getting one so maybe I'll sell her on taking mine next year?

Every day I wobble back and forth, but the fact of the matter for me is that if both were released same day I would get the 3G one. So I have to wait it out. As much as I want one on April 3rd, I will have to wait those extra days.

I just see incredible potential with the 3G/GPS combination.
 
Move to anywhere else in the world that isn't the United States, then you wont have to worry. (Grumble grumble)

Well you better get used to that design, because I bet the new iPhone is going to look like the iPad 3G.

hehe ok so i downloaded the lite version, it only supports HTTP/HTTP protocols but thats ok, if i want to FTP then ill grab my laptop or something lol. thanks so much for the recommendation!
 
I don't know if I can hold out! I want 3G so badly, but April 3rd is sooo close!!! Help me guys!!!! LOL!!! I have to be strong. Stay with 3G! It's the right choice!
