anything that is not on sprints 3g is like 4g lol SPRINTS network is just horrible..

I wish I never left ATT for sprint, I did it to get my kids phones on an unlimited plan..I cant wait to go back

Does LTE on Verizon allow Data and Voice simultaneously?

Even if it does, if I am outside of LTE converage, Verizon 3G doesn't allow it...I assume?

This is one of the reasons I am staying with AT&T at the moment.

I think it's funny how all of these people are saying, "When the LTE iPhone comes out, I am switching to Verizon."

As if AT&T doesn't operate an LTE network as well.

As a matter of fact... I'll stick with AT&T.

#1. HSPA+ Fallback. If you leave LTE coverage, you will still have better 3G (Fake 4G) speeds than Verizon's EV-DO 3G speeds.

#2. Verizon's Family Data Share is now FORCED. AT&T's share data is optional.

#3. Still have grandfathered unlimited data.

Yea that's great but for ME, I'll be in a Verizon LTE area 80% of the time. And ATT LTE won't be there for at least another 2 years. It took them until the end of 2009 to get 3G here. I expect it'll be the end of 2014 before LTE gets here.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't. I think that's their next priority after a full LTE rollout to get VoLTE (Voice over LTE). This is both voice and data using the 4G networks simultaneously.

Verizon has never used voice over 3G, only 1X.

My SGS III is much faster than my iPhone 4S both on AT&T.

That's to be expected since I'm in a very strong HSPA+ area & the Galaxy is setup for it. Once the iPhone is then it will run at similar speeds.

My wife's going to switch from Verizon to AT&T since it's so much faster in our area.

the s3 has LTE, so of course it is much faster

Yes it does, at least with the new SGS3 and HTC Inc 4g. I have the samsung and my wife has the htc and we both can be on the phone and using google maps, browsing the web, checking email. This works whether we are on 4g data or 3g data.

But definitely not all their phones do this. But if you switched over to Verizon, those are really the only 2 phones you should consider at the moment or wait for the iphone 5. Not sure if that will have simultaneous voice/data or not.

loving my SGS3 though and it's 35mbs down I get!

I always thought this is more of a network limitation, not phone specific...

Obviously you didn't read my post.

I guess I am just confused by it. Are you in an area that does not get LTE?, so you are comparing the HSPA+ speed of the 4S to the s3? Re-reading your post still makes me think you are trying to compare HSPA+ of the 4S to a phone that has LTE...

I'll start fresh, as I think we have a simple misunderstanding.

My intent was to comment on the speed of AT&T's HSPA+, not to suggest the iPhone is slow.

I posted this, which I believe is self explanatory. If it's not, I'd be happy to clarify what I meant.

it all makes sense now :)...I was definitely confused by the wording

It is a CDMA 3g network limitation but now with LTE you can get Data on LTE and you get voice on the 1x network i think. But i thought i remember when the Samsung Thunderbolt (or maybe it was the Charge) was the hot new thing, the OTHER androids that were in the current lineup could not do simultaneous voice+data even though they were 4g phones.

Someone who owned those phones would have to chime in. All i know is the latest and greatest android phones that VZW offers, the SGS3 and the Inc 4g, definitely do both voice+data at least when you are on the LTE network (which around Chicago you pretty much always are).
