agreed with last post -with heavy usage and two drain cycles only i get the following which is proof and not hear say.

Funny how there's no "break in" periods for other devices.

The fact is, even for those who get good life out of their iPhone batteries, they're not anywhere near as good as other devices.

If Apple weren't so insistent on keeping the slim design they could put a really good battery in there.

I ended up getting 1 day and 12 hours standby and 9 hours and 36 minutes usage.

I always keep everything on, push, 3G notifications, wifi.

i did another test where i let my ipod run continously for 9hours through my head phones and it drained only 24/25%. For me this phone is the dogs balls!
N95 doesnt get anywhere near as much battery life as this does. Nor does the Omnia or Omnia HD (all of which I have or had in the case of omnia hd which i borrowed off a friend for a few weeks).

@mattye - yes there is a break in period for ALL ppc/pda/smart phones if you read the instructions or speak to manufacturer help lines, they tell you to run through several drain 'cycles' for optomised battery performance.

I'm seeing this too.. my 3GS battery life is far inferior to my 3G. My 3G could go 2 days without charging, and my 3GS can't even make it through 1. This is not good, I need my phone for work, and I can't have something that won't last throughout an entire day.

I've also noticed much slower charge times on the 3GS. I'm charging my phone now on my computer, and it went from 51% to 55% in about 10 minutes. That is not good!!!

FWIW, I returned my Macbook Air last year for the *same* exact reason.

I am a new iphone owner who is coming from windows mobile phones for the last few years. att tilt and att fuze. Battery life for me is much better. 2 days of standby + normal usage is fine for me. I was used to charging every night no matter what.

I upgraded from a 3G and I must say I have been quite impressed with the battery. Like the poster above, charging at night was incorporated into my routine because it was a necessity; going 2 work full work days on a single charge was almost impossible. Mind you this was with 3G, Bluetooth, Push and Location services off. With the 3GS I can go two days without even getting down to 20% if I'm just using it normally with 3G, Wi-Fi, and Location Services on.

I never really complained about the 3G's battery but with the 3GS I'm blown away. Works much faster, has more capacity, has more capabilities, AND has a much improved battery? I have been extremely impressed. The upgrade has far exceeded my expectations.

Oh and I keep my brightness around 25% with auto-brightness turned off. For those of you having battery issues I highly recommend you turn the bightness level down. 25% is more than adequate for most environments.

I thought my batt life sucked too....until a couple of days ago I turned off location services, turned off push, turned off the EQ in iPod settings, turned off auto brightness and half it just below 50%, have it set to lock the screen after 2 minutes of no usage.....oh and wifi is off aswell as bluetooth.

Now my batt. lasts for a couple days.

Wish it didn't have to be this way and we could just leave everything on and still have the same results.

Oh and another tip I heard, close all your Safari windows when you are completely finished with them.

Using the same habits I'm getting better battery life so can't complain.

I'm even able to indulge a couple of NEW habits, like leaving 3G, Location Services, and WiFi turned on all the time, and I still get better battery life, on a more capable phone. Wouldn't dream of going back, not so far.

There's definitely something wrong, and I do believe it is software related.

With "push" on my battery life dropped 10% in ~20 minutes, in STANDBY mode, not doing anything!

Similarly, with "location services" on the battery goes to its knees almost as fast as with "push" on...mysteriously. I'd love to know why that is. I look forward to the official jailbreak so that I can easily turn these things on/off using sbsettings when I need them.

I have both an Exchange account and a MobileMe account constantly pushing to my iPhone, and I still do just fine in terms of battery life.

Your screen-cap shows that the iPhone has been plugged in since the last full charge, so it's pretty flawed.

Any usage over 5 hours is impressive, IMHO. If you're spending more than 5 hours a day* on your phone then I think you may have bigger problems :)

*I think it's reasonable to be expected to recharge the device every day, one way or another.

Believe what you'd like, I'm telling you the battery has been phenomenal. I plugged it in to sync a playlist and that was all. I find it hard to believe the charge it gets from a 5 minute sync provides these types of results. I'm not a fanboy trying to overlook some obvious Apple flaw and make excuses for their mistakes; I'm sharing my personal, unbiased, experience. Lower you're brightness and you will get 2 days of "normal" use without a problem.

How much iPod use was in those 9 hours? It's not had to get 15 hours of usage if it's mostly iPod.

can't get more than 3 1/2 hours battery usage, 2nd 3gs phone, sucks

apple already replaced...
I only check email (push manually), read news apps, read a few minutes of safari, talk for about 30 minutes a day, check the weather, listen to less than 10 minutes of itunes... and I could not get more than 3 1/2 hours of "usage"
I don't have any games, don't use youtube..my brightness is at 30%....
any suggestions other than doing a restore as a new iphone?
thanks

I hate that little % meter. Try turning it off and you'll notice you think you get much better battery life.

I have my brightness on about 15%, push is off, wifi off and I get about 4 hours of 3g surfing. I don't see how you get 2 days unless normal use is just listening to ipod and check mail 2 times a day and no surfing.
