lower my brightness to less than 30% and it will give me more than 3 hours usage?

you think the brightness, by lowering it down to 20% will give me 4-5 hours of usage on a full charge
reading news apps, checking email, weather, emailing a few pics, and listening to a few songs in itunes?
do you suggest I do a restore as a new phone?
thanks

I really don't understand one thing:

On every forums ppl are complaining about battery life, but their results of battery life aren't compareable at all.
Stop complaining and just test your battery like Apple did it, it isn't complicated at all.
Claiming your battery lasts more than 9 hours without telling us how you used the phone is pretty useless.

So try this:
"Testing conducted by Apple in May 2009 using preproduction iPhone 3GS units and software. Video content consisted of a repeated 2-hour 23-minute movie purchased from the iTunes Store. All settings were default except: Call Forwarding was turned on; Wi-Fi was associated with a network; the Wi-Fi feature Ask to Join Networks and Auto-Brightness were turned off. Battery life depends on the cellular network, location, signal strength, feature configuration, usage, and many other factors. Battery tests are conducted using specific iPhone units; actual results may vary."

Run a vid in repeat, best time for this is probably before you go to sleep, and you should get near the Apple specs of 10 hours usage. If not, go to the next apple store or call their hotline an get a new phone.

It really depends on your personal usage. Really. ;)

I have a great battery, however safari is a real drain even in short bursts so watch out!

I think that's what bugs me.

I like to look at several sites and post in forums on those sites. It bothers me to watch the % drop every couple of minutes.

I think a priority for :apple: for the next version should be to find a battery that can get a good days worth or more even if using the net.

People who use exchange, will find that their battery is running low quickly, and that the CPU is always in use, due to Push and other things when using Exchange. Upon inspection of the Exchange logs, you will find that there are errors and warning almost every minute or second, from the Apple iPhone.

I am not entirely sure that the 3.1 software fixes it, since I don't have an Exchange server to use, however, I'll be installing Exchange 2007 to test this, and will report back soon :)

not even 3 1/2 hours of "usage" normal usage...sucks!

by the way I don't even have a setting called notifications to turn it "off"; I am guessing you have to download a 3rd party app to have this feature show under settings?
today used my phone, checking email a few times, reading news apps
i.e. usa today, ny times, the weather, my ipod for about 30 mintues and safari for about 10 minutes and couldn't even get past the 3 1/2 hour of usage...
my brightness is turned all the way down to 25%, push is set to fetch manually,
don't play any games (am older), don't watch youtube
I took a few pics with the camera and emailed them to my gmail account...
and that is it
what gives, someone told me after 2 new 3gs phones to look at the 3rd and 4th digits of the serial number to see if I got a bad batch at the santa monica promenade store...
after hours and hours on the phone with level 2/3 tech support at apple,
the only solution is a complete restore as a new phone?
any help?
thanks

The battery on my 3GS seems to be just as good as my 3G. The battery on my v1 iPhone was the worst of the three. My neighbor returned his 3GS 32GB tonight to BB and he had it on the charger, but the reading said 77%, when it should have said 100%. Clearly, it wasn't charging at all....:eek::eek:
