I predict...

...that sooner or later, this Thread title will be true!

(other than that, all bets are off...)

The GM has been working fine for me. Some folks are reporting WiFi issues though. Apple will most likely be looking into that before releasing.

I think it's more likely that it will be next week or later. Folks seem to be forgetting that this iOS update also has an associated iTunes update, and Mac OSX update. This one will be trickier than most.

It was a white iPhone joke.

Aha! Ok then.

actually since 2.0 they've only done 3 releases on a friday, one was a major interation, that was 2.0. a medium release of 2.2 the only other release on a friday was 3.0.1.

The most common days are wednesday and monday with the same amount. 4.1 was a wednesday, 4.0 a monday, 3.1 a wednesday, 3.0 a wednesday, 2.1 a tuesday.

personally i am going with Wednesday, as that will be a week after GM, i don't think that they've ever had a period less than a week between GM and final release, they need at least that for Devs to test their apps and submit the updates ready for the apps to be released once final release is done.....

so although you are not wrong, it's unlikely to be tomorrow

Not enough data to be statistically significant.

which iOS update rolled out on a Friday?

See above. OSX is an OS as well. Tiger And Snow Leopard were both introduced on a Friday.

It's probably waiting on iTunes 10.1 which is required to install it, and OS X 10.6.5 which is required for printing.

The iOS 4.2GM was released to developers on Monday night, so one week would be either this coming Sunday or Monday.

lol so i cover all the iOS releases back to 2.0, which is 15 releases and you deem it irrelevant? and then you start bringing in OSX releases? that's TOTALLY irrelevant. we're discussing iOS releases. not OSX releases. and if we go back to 1.0, Wednesdays and Mondays become more common, since GM of 4.2 came out on monday thats what i'm going with as the earliest it will come out.

you're being totally illogical, any common sense, with these facts would go with monday or wednesday. I'll see you here in 24 hours when you're proven wrong that it will be out tomorrow

Statistically speaking, yes, it's too small a sample size to make a probability weighted prediction on.

The statement I was answering was that Apple does not release software updates on a Friday. This has been proven to be a false assertion, would you not agree?

On the contrary, I believe I am being completely logical. Furthermore, I could not care less if I'm "proven" right or wrong on an Internet forum with random strangers. It's all speculation anyway. The one thing I will say is "DST bug". If this has been fixed, Apple will want to release this well before Saturday night. If it has not been fixed, then Apple will want to delay until Monday so that non-4.1 users are not effected.

I have the 4.2 GM so i'm really not that anxious for the release since this is almost the same version that would be released.

Do you even have a life? damn

lol i think going by nearly all the iOS release dates is a decent enough sample. going with OSX updates is irrelevant as it's a different kettle of fish.

Apple have posted a workaround for the daylight savings bug, therefore they're not in a rush to release a fix for the bug. but i like the fact you're backpeddling a bit now saying that they might want to delay til monday... subtle.. :p

Not backpedaling at all. I think it will be today but I am offering a possible explanation as to why it may not be. I personally do not care when it is.

How is counting OS X releases irrelevant? The discussion is trying to discern the inner working policies of release schedules. Drawing an arbitrary boundary between OSX/iOS seems to me totally illogical.

Of course, this entire thread is totally illogical, at least without some statistical measure of time from GM to time of release.

osx and ios are 2 seperate things, there is no arbitrary boundary. you might as well then bring in other software like ilife or what not or the new hardware releases! lol

we're looking at the history and trend of iOS. therefore the only releases to compare are iOS releases. nice simple pure logic.

you were adamant about today, i show some logic about how it won't be, you start sayin 'well they might want to wait if they haven't fixed the bug'. thats backpeddaling.

i won't backpeddal if it comes out today, if it does, i'll hold my hands up and admit i'm wrong

I think this discussion is more pointless than even stating that the release date will be "today". We will see when it arrives, whether or not it is today or early next week, or even later than next week.

It will be here. Soon as well, because the GM has been out since Monday. It will not be long. Hell, it might still be today. But us 'discussing' it is as pointless as anything.

you realise that part of macrumors forum is to discuss/debate apple related subjects.......

Totally. A discussion about Apple related subjects could range from:

What new features will iOS get in 5.0?
Will there be new data plans introduced with a second-generation iPad?

And so on, and while I do not wish to endorse opening a new topic about "when will the next iPhone be released?" or "Verizon iPhone please?", this topic is not useful in any way shape or form: the iOS update is days from releasing, we all know that. The actual release date is just a guess, and not an informed estimate even, never mind whether those are of any use to anyone.

There is no evidence that will prove when Apple releases the update to the general public - Apple has released OS updates every work day and possible on Saturdays as well. The wait will not last longer or shorter based on what you guys say or hope for.

That said, I do really want iOS 4.2 as soon as physically possible.

Sent from my iPad.

I don't believe I was adamant. I simply said we should see it today. We probably won't now as it's too late. Saturday is still a possibility as Apple has released updates to other software on Saturdays before.

I really don't care. It's not a contest.

i think you're wrong, they dont do major iOS updates on a saturday. it will be monday at earliest. thats based on my opinion and facts :)

It's already in GM. Unless there is a significant bug uncovered, we should see it today or tomorrow.

Highly doubt it... Seems almost 50% of the iOS 4.2 GM users are experiencing wifi problems... For myself no wifi problems but battery life is no longer near the 10 hour mark like it was when I was running iOS 3.2, a problem others are also reporting..
