Not to be a d**k, but that is exactly what you are paying for. It sounds like beta software may not be right for you.

It's amazing how many people out there seem to think betas are just GM's that the production company want's to dangle out of the majority of people's reach, and not what they are - versions in testing to find/get rid of bugs/issues.

I don't expect it to be a GM,

Stop putting words into other peoples mouths. If apple could not figure out why it would not restore then don't release it...plus a majority of the people have it on there phones to actually test their apps not just screw around.

I had to do something illegal here; running osx in a vm, then update from it. Dont screw yourself if your device becomes a 1,1 or dies halfway through restoration with Xcode. It'll happen.

What?

Now this is all happening with 4.2 beta 2 also

Some help please?

If you've used TinyUmbrella or some other Cydia-override routine to save your SHSH blobs or bypass iTunes' activation servers, therein lies your problem.

Your hosts file has been modified, specifically the one that points to gs.apple.com.

Go into Terminal and modify your /etc/hosts file and comment out the line with the IP address and gs.apple.com. Then flush your cache and exit Terminal, or simply reboot your Mac.

Then perform the restore naturally in iTunes. Voila.
