Im hoping for a 1080p resolution because you can then stream videos/movies in native 1080p and not waste battery on rescaling. There are many scenarios where you want a 1080p resolution and I think it would be a logical way to go. Just think of Youtube, Netflix, your own videorecordings, it's all 1080p, everywhere!

You know what I find the most funny.

People here defending this rumor.

And yet, come launch day, if the 4.7" iPhone has a better screen than this rumor is reporting. Those exact same people will be saying, Yes, Perfect, it was right of Apple to go with this new, whatever is might be, screen res.

It's so predictable.

The most predictable thing on MR is that you will make this prediction.

Hmm not sure what to make of that one, on one hand I find it very pathetic if a screen is incapable of displaying a 1080P resolution in the middle of 2014 for the price this handset will cost, when the 'other' brands in the market are moving far beyond that resolution with their flagships.

On the other hand it's a 4.6" screen, how much would i notice? Then again my Nexus 5 1080P screen is big enough to tell the difference! So i expect a 4.6" one will be too?

Needless to say, it's 2014, a handset costing $500 or more with no 1080P screen is a joke really. Especially considering the resolution of iPads these day's.

I wish apple would just tell us devs what the resolution would be. There are going to be quite a few apps broken on the new phones if they don't hurry.

I myself use and else statement to adjust design for iPads. Well the new screen size is going to fall under that else if I don't know what to catch it under.

Only Apple's home grown apps and a few select developers will be compatible on day one. So either apps are going to blow up to fill the display or you're going to have letterbox.
This is why people should give Android more credit and realize just how powerful the code is. You could have any number of screen resolutions and sizes and the majority of apps will work.

Less heat
Less power consumption
Less GPU/CPU taxing
Same pixel density iPhone users are accustomed to

Apple will lose little despite being sub-HD. They will actually be gaining in areas that are more critical.

Now, about that RAM...

No 1080p? Thought no 720p was bad on the iPhone 5; this is now an absolute joke. It's 2014, Apple!

so much ignorance. 1) normal people dont buy new iphones annually. normal people are on 2-year contracts and dont upgrade before; only phone/tech nerds do. 2) iphones are a one/two year deal? er, no. they have the best logevity in the business -- people use them for years and then give them to family members or friends to continue using. 3) the notion that an iphone is a throw-away device is laughable.

Normal people don't camp outside an electronics store for a few nights for a new mobile phone either............ :rolleyes:

They shouldn't break. If I remember correctly, your app (until updated) will be presented with the old screen size. So it'll have black borders.

Tbh, I doubt downscaling uses much battery life at all. However an increased PPI will require a more powerful backlight and that can really smash battery life.

The human eye can not differentiate detail much beyond 300 PPI anyhow. So for most it just doesn't matter. Didn't anyone listen to Steve Jobs when he originally explained this? :cool:

Some of you sound pathetic "my note 3" "my s5" "my nexus 5".No one gives a #%^*that your phone has 400ppi or 900 ppi it's still a ugly piece of #%^*.The iphone 6 screen will be good enough for most people in the real wold.

This has to be a joke. 1472 x 828 is the most ridiculous resolution ever!
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, but the actual resolution doesn't matter as long as the PPI is around 330 or so in order to maintain the same physical size of objects on screen.

Cool, in that case we finally will have some evidence for specific people flip-flopping. Something that so far nobody was able to deliver.

So why did Apple move to 64 BIT CPU's then????

To allow for more RAM, you do realise that a quad core CPU at this stage would provide a bigger leap in performance right? So going dual core 64 bit, they've shown they have faith in dual core.

Normally it would but my code looks like this:

Code:
if (screenBounds.size.height == 568)
{
resizing stuff 4inch
}
else if (screenBounds.size.height == 480)
{
resizing stuff for 3.5inch
}
Else
{
resizing stuff for ipads
}

Which means it will treat any new res as an ipad. Honestly not sure how its going to look but likely things will be moved off screen thus breaking the app.

We don't know what the final resolution will be. We are relying upon "proposed" screens.

Unless you hold your phone 2 inches from your eyes and you have 20/20 vision and do not need reading glasses, more than 400 dpi is not necessary.

At the normal distance that we hold our phones from our eyes, it just becomes a numbers game. Competitors are going to want to say they have something "better" than Apple by saying their screen has higher resolution.

This is an article about the possible resolution of the iPhone 6. It is NOT an Apple bashing article.

Now go ahead and say you are entitled to say whatever you want...

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, but I don't like exotic resolutions that no other device in the universe has.

Well they failed big time on the RAM, still waiting for that one, and 64 bit was only done to boost performance for iOS, the same as quad core CPU's for Android. So my reply was correct in my first post.

HAHAHAHA!!!! I said to SUPPORT
More RAM. Obviously after the 2GB RAM limit they would go to 4GB and only 64bit allows that so they decided to future proof that whole aspect so by the time 4GB RAM is possible, developers won;'t be complaining about advance notice.

So again, false. it was not to boost iOS performance like you claim because in all actuality all the leaps in performance don't come from the A7 being 64 bit, rather because it was engineered well.

Dang kind of wanted to try iphone again but having a note 3 makes me spoiled with a nice screen lol.. looks like note 4 here I come.. well a 4.7 in screen is nice so it will be some what nicer that you dont have to hold it up close in your face and still will look great even if the ppi is not that high..
