Which one?

Conceptually, I'd love the 5.5 screen, but practically? Not so much.

5.5 may end up with a shorter battery life and carrying a 'phone' that big in my pocket doesn't sound appealing.

If, however, the 5.5 actually exists, is at a similar price point, and is available at the same time, I may reconsider.

I wish this poll was qualified beyond "which one?" For instance, "all things being equal except screen size (no differing features or price)" would be a good qualifying detail. Since it's just "which one?" many are qualifying with their answers.

I also wish this same poll could be asked of the Android crowd because this crowd here will pretty much buy whatever Apple rolls out. Personally, I think both phone sizes are aiming at drawing in first-time iPhone buyers or drawing back former iPhone buyers that went Android for bigger screens. If so, for that crowd, even 5.5" may seem small relative to some of the phones they may own or know (and 4.7" may seem much too small). We're accustomed to 4", so 4.7" seems big and 5.5" seems HUGE. But both will look different through the Android big-screen phone buyer's eyes.

Nevertheless, look at that distribution already. In a niche segment entirely accustomed to iPhone's 4" screen size and where, until the rumors piled up that Apple was going bigger, everything bigger than 4" was called "abomination", "stupid", "99% don't want a phablet", "fragmentation", etc, about 1/3rd (as I write this) desires the 5.5".

Imagine that you are Apple. Would you really leave that money for Samsung and others for up to another year? Or would you roll out both options to basically challenge the one, most tangible hardware differentiator for the Android side?

5.5 is just too big to comfortably carry around in pants pockets. If I decide to get the 6 then it will be the 4.7" version. That's about the perfect screen size for a phone and anything bigger is pretty ridiculous.

Backstory

When I bought the original iPhone in 2007, it was painfully obvious at least to me that the screen was too small for real world practicality. Combined with the slow speed at the time, I returned it and went back to my Razor. When the speed increased in 2009, I finally dumped the Razor for the iPhone 3Gs.

However, I found having to constantly increase the size of web pages and scroll left to right to read lines of text to be a serious pain. When the HTC EVO debuted in 2010 with the 4.3" screen, that made so much more sense to me. I gave it a try and did find the screen size was the sweet spot that fixed the problem that I found with the iPhone. However, the lag that I experienced with the EVO caused me to return it and stay with the iPhone.

Note: People here thought I was absolutely bat ***** crazy to go from a 3.5" screen to a 4.3" screen and suggest that Apple increase the screen size and offer two different size models!

Before the iPhone 5 debuted, the speculation here was the screen would increase in size substantially. However, when it only increased by 0.5" with a odd wide shape, many were seriously disappointed including myself. I was so disappointed, I did not buy it. I currently have the 4s.

If the 5.5 is a reality, I will be buying that. Why? Because I have played with phones of this size and I like it. Web browsing, youtube, movies, books. It works! I'm sure 4.7 will be great too, but for me I just like a large screen. My biggest concern was will it fit in my pants pocket? Well, I tested the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with 5.7 screen in my pants pocket and it fit perfect! Done deal

Saddest part of this whole story is that Steve Jobs was fixated on the 3.5 screen and presumably did not listen to customer feedback and ended up losing billions to the other companies that gave consumers bigger screens. Only now that Apple has been steamrolled by other companies in billions of dollars are they finally conceding and offering a bigger screen!

I'm getting the 4.7" this time around. I'm really curious about the 5.5" but I think I'll be conservative and pre-order the 4.7".

If, after visiting the Apple store, the 5.5" is my cup-o-tea, I'll just get a 5.5" when the 6S comes out. (This is, of course, assuming the 5.5" isn't a fairy tale, which I still think it might be.)

I will get a 5.5 if it is available. My buddy has an LG phone about that size and I have no issues handling it or putting it in a pocket.

If it isn't available, I will get the 4.7. I have 4s, so either will be an improvement.

Thank you for saying that first part. People on here think that their pockets are too small and will rip open if they put a bigger iPhone in there.

Maybe it's an excuse to have a reason to hate the idea of a bigger phone, but...I don't see it as a major problem.

Same here. I borrowed a friend's 6" LG Flex and had no problem putting it in my pocket and sitting with it in the pocket.

I can put my sisters HTC One (M7, 4.7") in my pocket without a problem.
I can put the HTC Vivid (4.5" screen) in my pocket. Both of my parents have one.

It's not a big deal, but I guess people just like to read their own posts and feel some type of satisfaction after saying that.

It doesn't matter either way if the batteries still suck. That's the main issue with iPhones.

Neither for me, I'm trading my iPhone for hopefully the new Moto X or the next Nexus.

I like the things you can do easily in Android like changing your launcher and vanilla Kit Kat has bee great in my testing with the work phone. Android L should be even better.

I'm also over the home button, having a back button us handy.

I do still like the gestures on my iPad so I look forward to seeing what iOS 8 is like, I barely use the home button on the iPad. The iPhone could use gestures too.

4.7" is fine for me. Not interested in a 5.5" at all. 4.7" seems like the perfect size for me. My wife's uses a galaxy s5 and I love the size of that thing.

The new Moto X and Nexus has my attention. Too bad there won't be a Nexus on Verizon. Might have to head over to AT&T or T-Mobile. As much as I love Apple products, the wow factor has definitely wore off. :(
