I think this poll should have 3 options:

#1. 4.7" Because that is what suits my needs.

#2. 5.5" Because that is what suits my needs.

#3. 4.7" Because it will be the only choice come September.

No #4 4.7" Because the 5.5" doesn't exist?

I spend more time on my phone than anything else. Just makes sense to get the 5.5. I could get the smaller and pair it with an ipad mini but why pay for the extra data if there's an already financed alternative in a phone? Just makes sense, to me, to get the larger.

All this is IF there is a larger version.

If the 5.5" is available, I'll get that one. I need to see what the hype is about these monster-sized phones, and Apple is the only company I'd try that with.

I have small hands. i always said that having a bigger than 4,3" phone is an overkill..till I got the HTC One M8, which is really tall because of the boom sound speakers. At first I was overwhelmed by the size, the phone barely fits my pockets in a comfortable way. After some time getting used to that, I learned how to deal with the bigger size. I know how I should hold the phone properly, and the only thing still bothering me is the way it feels in the pocket. In the meantime I enjoy the glorious screen and I love using the M8, much more than my iPhone, mainly because of the larger screen, the great sound and blinkfeed.
I believe that 4,7" is probably an ideal size for a phone, but if Apple manages to make a 5,5" as tall as the M8 or LG G3, then it would still be ok to hold and use with one hand, most of the time.
I have to say, using the M8 every day has been a joy and unless Apple brings something amazing on the table, I am not sure I will be getting a new iPhone.

I will go with 5.5. I have used Note 3 and the screen is so perfect. But I heard that the 5.5 screen won't be released until december. Is that true? Can't wait to get one.

No one knows the release date of the 4.7", let alone the 5.5", if it exists (cue 1080p). Just be patient and hopefully we'll have all the answers on September 9th, if that exists. :D

If Apple plans to use the 1080p resolution, you need all the battery life you can get.

A 2900+ mAh capacity sounds much better than 1800+. One of the weaknesses the HTC One (2013) had was HTC put a 2300 mAh on it. A mistake done by LG with the Nexus 5. Typical 5-6 screen time usage. By putting 3000 mAh, it could have went from average to excellent. An 1800 mAh should be "ok" for 720p displays but closer to 3000 mAh should be bare minimum for FHD and up. Also the pixel density should be higher on the 4.7 if they use the same resolution. Pushing more pixel density is battery draining as well.

This is why Samsung Galaxy Notes can be very popular. Their battery life is generally class-leading. Like I said before, I would rather carry a larger phone with 30-50% more battery than a smaller phone that could be dead by mid-afternoon. Esp if both models have unremovable batteries or you live in a country that deals with blackouts.

All-day battery life FTW! 5.5!

I know the release date. September 19th. Apple always announces on a Tuesday and releases 10 days later.

Not exactly, but a lot of people assume that. It's been different since I bought the original iPhone back in 2007. I happen to think you're right on this iPhone, though. I've planned some time off and vacation around those dates.

It's funny... the chart you posted is old and pre-4S. But you are right about 1 thing... in the last 3 generations, there has been a variance between 10 and 11 days... but that is because some of the announcements were on Monday instead of Tuesday. But... the iPhone ALWAYS comes out on a Friday. So September 19th is the SAFEST bet. 95% odds on that date.

I agree with you on the iPhone 6 release date. I'm just saying that the time between announcement and release has not always been ten days. Remember when Apple started release later in the year? People said that would never happen as well. Good companies adapt. :)

And I did add the 4S and 5 info below the graphic.

I believe the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is the only smaller phone with very little compromise compared to its Z1 bigger brother.

It only has 2300 mAh but it only had to power a 720p display with 342ppi. So there was very little compromise worth losing. The only thing I can't stand with the Z1C is the external speakers sound weak which isn't much a difference from big brother, I might add. It has quite amount a heft too for a compact model. But Sony being the Japanese conglomerate that they are accomplished alot within a smaller footprint. It was the Japanese technology/culture like Sony that helped miniaturized our portable gadgets like digicams that most people are used to it already. Then Motorola RAZR gave us the idea of "thin" phones during the flip phone era. But it is 2014 now. Larger phones haven't exactly reached 1980's Wall Street/Zack Morris phone-level.

Michael Fisher (PocketNow) being the best phone reviewer (IMO, witty, great voice, worked in theater/voice work) picked the Moto X over Z1C though but mainly for overall experience. I think it is fine if people opt for the 4.7. Your money. I just think Apple wants to purposely make the 5.5 better to sell it at least for $299 with contract like the Galaxy Notes. More money in their pockets.

The 4.7 just has more "caveats." Be warned. Once that unremovable and degrading 1800 mAh battery is running out by mid-afternoon trying to power more resolution and pixel density compared to the 5s and prev gens, it will be moment when some others will say "I TOLD YA SO!"

Samsung had alot more foresight with phablets than what most give them credit for. Forward-thinking on this segment with their S-Pen still a differentiator.

4.7 = caveat emptor

I still don't know, after switching from the Iphone 5 to the M8 for battery reasons i realized how practical it is to use a small phone.

I miss IOS a lot and I'm just waiting to see what the 4.7 is all about.

Call me crazy but if i find the 4.7 as uncomfortable for one hand use as the HTC m8 i will consider getting a 5s instead.

I'm alway interested in iPhones - had them for 5 years and only went to Android last year.

But the massive bezels on the iPhone 6 are too big - if that is the final design, then it's a no-go.

My current LG G3 has an incredible form factor.

If it has 2gigs ram I ll go with the 5.5 my nexus 5 screen seems unbearably small lately. 5 inch is the new 4 inch, u can't do anything serious on it

I'm praying the 5.5 has 2GB of ram, but it seems unlikely. Guess I have to deal with not being able to play games all the way through or have more than 4 tabs open, because multitasking makes the whole app reload.
It's almost like there is no multitasking.

Am I the only one who is perfectly fine with 4"?

Why do they need to get any bigger? 5.5" wouldn't even fit my pockets.

There are plenty, plenty of people that are perfectly fine with 4", including me.
