My story exactly. I was a bit unsure going in, in case my hundreds were wasted on something that would end up gathering dust, but it is definitely my most used device right now. Can't wait to add the iPhone 5 to the mix!

Add me to this group as well. I initially purchased it more for wanting the latest gadget. Now It's the most used device in my house. I'm surprised how much I use it.

For a baby?!

Babies learn visually due to their lack of speech capabilities. This is why sign language is sometimes promoted as an early communications tool.

Having a wife in the Special Ed/Speech Pathology field and myself recently doing a research paper on iPads and Special Education, can say that the iPad is a valuable tool, especially with those who have limited verbal communication. Users can now "verbalize" what is on their mind even if they can not speak the words.

Additionally, learning colors, shapes, sounds, and other basics are usually grasped quicker using a screen versus traditional paper. Some feel that this is because they can use their finger as the tool versus a pen or stylus. Also, animation can be used to grasp their interest versus a static sheet of paper.

Of course, this is just my view. Others may feel differently. However, the research is out there.

my little one learnt her A to Z and 1 to 10 using a combo of us and the iPad. that was from about 16 months.

she does get a little obsessed with watching videos on it though, we have to take it away from her

You'd be surprised how much they can use it for. my 5 year old uses mine very often for a bunch of learning apps, and some Disney stuff.for a 2 year old it can help develop hand/eye coordination, motor skills etc. Just don't let em play Infinity Blade or stuff like that. :)

same here.
My 4 year old is a whiz on many of the learning apps.
He loves trains and has several train/track design apps and it's amazing how his mind figures out how to connect the pieces.

I just wish you could delete the offensive youtube app.

Should I get iPad 2 or iPad 3?

A few days after the iPad 3 was launched, I heard that they got very hot after a while... do they still have heating issues?

I use my ipad 3 to play diablo 3 while away from my desktop.

it actually gets used by the entire family. we actually need a second one

my six year old uses it a lot to play games and watch movies.

I agree, I'm amazed how quickly they pick this stuff up. It helps with problem solving for my son.

You cant delete the youtube (until iOS 6 comes out at least), but you can add a restriction for it under Settings > General > Restrictions. Try that. :)

I sold mine after 5 days lol. Just wanted to see what it was really like. If te mini comes out, I may buy it or the nexus 7.
When I did have the iPad, it was great. Watched quite a few films on it and was great for emails.
I just didn't think it'd pay it's worth so decided to sell.

Sadly, I rarely use mine. I usually use my MacBook Pro. Occasionally for reading and movies, but that's it. My 6 year old son wants to use it, but I don't want him to break it.

I'd sell it, but I'm still paying on it and I know that I would lose at least $100-200 off the price I paid and making payments on something I don't own would suck.

I just bought an iPad just to show off everybody anywhere I go…on the bus, starbuck, library, and restaurant hoping to make million of friends. :apple:

The iPad is a great tool for kids to learn on. My 7yr old niece learns a lot from the educational videos, games, and drawing and other creativity tools made available to her.

Sold mine because i realized it was just gathering dust. Expected it to become my favourit and main internet surfing device... never happened. i do too many things that just need a mouse or keyboard to be done efficiently.

maybe if i could install google chrome with all my addons and stuff i would have used it more.

bought myself a MBPr now (my first mac) and i love it. might switch again when they release a 13'' version.

Almost never use mine.

Glorified consumption device, a wanna-be computer. Not just the iPad, all tablets.

when the iPad first came out I had to have one and got the iPad during the first week it was out. about 2 months ago I updated to the "New iPad" or as most of us know the 3rd generation and I find myself using it even more than I did the older one. I even carry it with me everywhere I go it seems.

Some of the most common uses everyday are for reading (iBooks and Kindle), Newspapers (Orlando Sentinel, Chicago Tribune, USA Today) Viewing and sharing photos, I use Numbers and Pages often as well as an app that tracks my blood pressure. I also use it to surf the web and for facebook.

I am now carrying an iPad more than I am the MacBook Pro.

One thing that i did notice though, when I was using the original iPad, it was a 32GB, I rarely had less than 16GB of free space, so when decided to get the new iPad, I opted for the 16GB. Well now I wish I had went for the 32GB. I still have plenty of free space on the 16, but that is gradually decreasing, so I do see myself updating sooner than I planned to at least the 32GB or maybe even the 64GB.

I've been in the market for an iPad recently and the iPad 2 looks like the best way to go for me (performance equal to iPad 3 yet costs over $100 less - $320 for 16gb refurb vs $450 for 16gb refurb)

Having a 4s, don't really see any difference in screen quality. And I never use Siri on my phone so iPad 2 seems like the way to go for me. Can't wait to get mine!

I've had my iPad 3 since June. I don't use it every day. Rarely, actually. I wouldn't consider it the center of my digital world. That title belongs to my desktop. I would say it's an expensive toy. It might help kill time during long rides on the train, but I usually don't like being "connected" when I'm out and about. As for reading, I'm old fashion in that I actually like to hold a book and read from a book. I'm not into the nook or kindle or whatever.

My 10y/o nephew uses it more than I do to play Dragon Vale or whatever. Can't complain as I received it as a gift for my birthday. Prior to owning one, it had never occurred to me to even buy one. I told my nephew that had the iPad not been a gift from a very good friend, it would have been his to keep.
