iOS 27 is likely to introduce at least four new Apple Intelligence features that function within system apps, based on backend code discovered by Nicolás Alvarez and confirmed by MacRumors.

Apple-Visual-Intelligence.jpg

First up, Apple is expected to lean more heavily into Visual Intelligence in iOS 27, since the company is reportedly developing AI wearable devices that will leverage the feature. Apple is reportedly working on smart glasses, AirPods with cameras, and a wearable AI pin or pendant.

To that end, Visual Intelligence appears to be getting at least two new capabilities. One of them will likely let you scan a food nutrition label to get more information, which could well integrate into the Health app. Another will offer to add printed phone numbers/addresses to your Contacts. Visual Intelligence already offers to add calendar dates to your Calendar, so an equivalent feature for contacts makes sense.

Elsewhere, Apple's Wallet app is likely to gain the ability to generate digital passes from scans of things like event tickets, gym membership cards and the like. Google Wallet for Android already does something similar, using AI to determine the content of a pass.

Meanwhile, in Safari, we're expecting a new AI feature that will automatically name Tab Groups for users based on the contents of the tabs within the group.

We can't say with certainty that the above features will work as described, since we're interpreting them from the names of individual code strings. Likewise, we do not know for sure that they will appear in iOS 27 or a future point update of the upcoming software, but given that Apple is working on a smarter version of ‌Siri‌ for iOS 27 with deeper integration across apps, the timing fits.

Apple will unveil iOS 27 at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, before launching in September just ahead of when new iPhone models come out.

Well, I’m looking forward to it. No use looking behind at how many years it is taken for this to finally come to fruition, although it’s not here yet! Apple bought themselves some more time, all the way to September before we can complain that it still isn’t happening. I hope visual intelligence is more accurate than look up has been, but if it all works as advertised, I will really be using it.

Apple is reportedly working on smart glasses, AirPods with cameras, and a wearable AI pin or pendant.
And a homepod with a screen and a security camera and a doorbell and a new AppleTV and...

The rumors keep coming, but the products don't ship. Half of these have probably been canceled like the apple watch with a camera. Better start saving up some money for September though, because if even half of these rumors are right then there is going to be a deluge of stuff this autumn.

The consequence is that you have left the platform by voting with your dollar and Apple has one less customer, no?
But Apple still made billions from lies and missed deadlines. They promised features that they still haven't delivered yet. If they are going to wait until the new phones in September, then that’s going to be 3 years it’s taken them. It’s bloody embarrassing, and Apple should be fined heavily for this. There will be people that bought iPhones for this and are only now getting it years later. And even then it's still not guaranteed.

Screw them. Im genuinely pissed about this whole thing. How could they get away with marketing a lineup with sole intelligence, Siri, agentic mode, and not deliver 2 years later, with no consequences ?
Yeah.

I got the 16e specifically as a low cost way to get new Siri and the full suite of AI features promised at wwdc 24. Else I would’ve got a regular 15 refurb.

I don’t even believe that we will see what was promised in 2024 in iOS 27.

I’m not in the USA - so I can’t file a class action lawsuit

Hopefully some sort of legal body in the uk will help us all get recompense.

That would be 2 years, which was a 1 year delay.

I share the disappointment, but there are two viable paths to affect change: be heavily involved in class action lawsuits or be heavily involved in a boycott. Everything else is just armchair quarterbacking and doesn't do anything.

Even the delivered Apple Intelligence features are very behind Android and always will be. These half-baked services are not selling phones. They have record sales numbers with the existing Siri. AI is not moving the needle for them. (Which is why it is weird that so many products have not shipped updates because of it, but whatever.) If you want AI, you go to Android. I use both daily for work, so I am always going to have one foot in the Apple (cess)pool, but it's always going to be an also-ran when it comes to AI. Licensing tech from Google instead of a major acquisition or building their own stuff was the final nail in this coffin.

I am of the mindset that whatever we get this fall will still feel like an early alpha and will probably not get any meaningful revisions for another year or more. Look at features like App Library which launched in iOS 14 and has never been touched since. (It's an embarrassment of a poorly thought-out way to copy the Android app drawer. You can't organize your apps the way you want, you can't rename your categories or apps, you can't change the default view to the alpha sort, etc.) That's going to be Apple Intelligence in 5 years.

Yeah.

Does UK law prohibit you from getting involved? Contact a lawyer if you want something to happen. Just keep in mind that WWDC is for developers and not a product announcement or a promise of any kind. It's intended to show people what to work on and where the company is going so developers can align with the targets. Not every development goal ships on time or at all. Most customers don't even know what WWDC is. And I don't think anything from that announcement included announcing UK timing or availability. I just think any use of WWDC wouldn't hold water in a courtroom. You would be more effective targeting their ad campaign, provided those pulled Bella Ramsey ads aired in the UK.

Well, Apple did say this would be an amazing year for them and their first swing out of the gate after that announcement was the MacBook Neo so they have my attention anyway.

Sorry, Cupertino. Still not seeing anything that's convincing me to turn Apple "Intelligence" and Siri back on.

It’s not Apple’s fault that there’s people that don’t care about what people who care about updated Siri care about. Those people who REALLY care about updated Siri waited because they wanted to see how the feature worked before they spent a penny on a new device. Those who SAY that the new Siri was important to them, but bought a new device before new Siri was delivered… I mean… HOPEFULLY they won’t buy an iPhone 18 until it ships with a Siri that works like their expectations.

A creep’s tool’s of the trade.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple includes a feature with their glasses so that anyone not wanting to be filmed in someone else’s video can just activate a flag on an AirTag as “private” and carry it around with them. The creeps will have to just keep using Meta’s devices. 😀

Scanning nutrition labels for food advice is a really cool feature. I hope it's free, because current apps want a subscription (surprise!). It'll be really helpful for those of us who don't know what we're looking for yet.

There exists a thread here on MR that has delved into AI, GROK, and CSAM, etc. I will be interested to see how much turmoil these AI glasses stir up, especially if the images are stored on an iPad or iPhone. The predators will have a field day with these glasses.

This gets substantially complicated in the U.S., where, in public places, you can film whatever your eyes see. Inside a business, it becomes a touch more complicated, and the person can be asked to leave or not photograph. Business owners have the privilege to do that, to refuse service, as a rule. So long as the refusal is not discriminatory on the basis of age, sex, color, etc.

The device you are speaking about would likely violate a handful of State or Federal laws in the use of electronics to access and control the device of another person. It all gets very complicated.
