I was looking forward to a new Siri. I will not get a new phone until the software is where I want it to be. I will keep rocking my 14 Pro Max until then, for those that purchased a new phone because of rumers be more mindful when making those types of decisions.

This gets substantially complicated in the U.S., where, in public places, you can film whatever your eyes see. Inside a business, it becomes a touch more complicated, and the person can be asked to leave or not photograph. Business owners have the privilege to do that, to refuse service, as a rule. So long as the refusal is not discriminatory on the basis of age, sex, color, etc.

The device you are speaking about would likely violate a handful of State or Federal laws in the use of electronics to access and control the device of another person. It all gets very complicated.
Apple’s not a government. 🙂 And, Apple already offers a device with cameras that do not record except by meeting Apple’s criteria for recording, and there’s been no State or Federal charges brought because of that.

One would hope!

Scanning nutrition labels for food advice is a really cool feature. I hope it's free, because current apps want a subscription (surprise!). It'll be really helpful for those of us who don't know what we're looking for yet.
Visual Intelligence is extendable, and Developers can hook into it and provide more services, both in the "Search" button (as eBay, Pinterest, Amazon and Calorific have), as well as providing additional services in the same way that VI detects phone numbers, events, words to translate or read aloud, etc. So for instance, you could install a Pokedex app, and whenever VI sees a Pokemon, the words "Add Squirtle to Pokedex" might appear.

All of that is doable today.

Calorific does the food lookup thing as well - there's several others I've seen too. It doesn't have to be implemented in Apple by the Health app. With Apple Intelligence and App Intents from Developers, capabilities of applications are integrated right into system experiences.

Screw them. Im genuinely pissed about this whole thing. How could they get away with marketing a lineup with sole intelligence, Siri, agentic mode, and not deliver 2 years later, with no consequences ?
First "agentic mode" didn’t even exist as a concept 2 years ago. And Apple Intelligence was delivered as promised, and has been extended far beyond the original specs. Many of us use it every day. Yes, three features were postponed - because of the expanded attack surface posed by the features the EU forced into iOS, which meant that Apple could no longer count on there only be approved apps on the device. Plus, by the time the year had elapsed, the on-device AI world had come up with new approaches that would significantly improve user and developer experience, so they punted. It was the right choice.

iOS 27 is likely to introduce at least four new Apple Intelligence features that function within system apps, based on backend code discovered by Nicolás Alvarez and confirmed by MacRumors.

Apple-Visual-Intelligence.jpg

First up, Apple is expected to lean more heavily into Visual Intelligence in iOS 27, since the company is reportedly developing AI wearable devices that will leverage the feature. Apple is reportedly working on smart glasses, AirPods with cameras, and a wearable AI pin or pendant.

To that end, Visual Intelligence appears to be getting at least two new capabilities. One of them will likely let you scan a food nutrition label to get more information, which could well integrate into the Health app. Another will offer to add printed phone numbers/addresses to your Contacts. Visual Intelligence already offers to add calendar dates to your Calendar, so an equivalent feature for contacts makes sense.

Elsewhere, Apple's Wallet app is likely to gain the ability to generate digital passes from scans of things like event tickets, gym membership cards and the like. Google Wallet for Android already does something similar, using AI to determine the content of a pass.

Meanwhile, in Safari, we're expecting a new AI feature that will automatically name Tab Groups for users based on the contents of the tabs within the group.

We can't say with certainty that the above features will work as described, since we're interpreting them from the names of individual code strings. Likewise, we do not know for sure that they will appear in iOS 27 or a future point update of the upcoming software, but given that Apple is working on a smarter version of ‌Siri‌ for iOS 27 with deeper integration across apps, the timing fits.

Apple will unveil iOS 27 at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, before launching in September just ahead of when new iPhone models come out.

All interesting, but it's also important to realize that Visual Intelligence is already used by a variety of applications to provide many of those things today. Remember, this is a development platform, and both Apple Intelligence and Visual Intelligence have been integrated into an ever increasing number of applications. As I mentioned in my other replies, there already are apps that do these things with Visual Intelligence.

This will be more/better/faster, with wearables. The idea is to make this how people interact with the world. They are hoping to revolutionize how people see and make them permanently connected.

It will be really cool... until we will get brawndo commercials every 20 seconds blared into our ears unless we give them 5% of our household income annually.

So, you'd prefer Apple just keep making the same phone forever and not much else?
There's a difference between "making the same phone" and "spending money on new type of gadget that so far failed to gain much traction while allowing your mainstream, popular products decline".

Apple's strength is a comprehensive integrated ecosystem that commands premium prices. To command these premium prices, that ecosystem must provide a value proposition. Apple's value proposition had traditionally been great hardware and smoothly working software.

I've been with Apple since 2013, fully invested into their ecosystem since 2015. I was a die hard Windows Mobile fan until MS killed it, and then Android for several years. So I was used to pretty much unlimited customization of nearly every aspect of the phone, being able to flash custom ROMs, having a proper filesystem, being able to use multiple app sources. The Apple ecosystem (back then it was just iPhone and iPad) was very limited by comparison, but I gave it all up for having devices that were extremely reliable, never lagged or had sudden battery drain, retained reasonable levels of performance for years, had frequent OS updates, with a smooth and luxurious looking interface right out of the box. I've been expanding my Apple ecosystem as time went - Apple TV, Apple Watch, AirPod Pros, HomePod Minis.

Now over a decade later, I feel that the overall quality of ecosystem is slipping. First and foremost, they need to concentrate on fixing Siri and making the various bits of their hardware ecosystem work better together. I am paying Apple's hardware premium because I expect premium experience. If I wanted bleeding edge tech that breaks half the time, I could just switch back to Android.

There's quite a lot of negativity in the comments. I'm super-excited if the rumour about the new Apple Wallet functionality is correct. Being able to get all of my loyalty cards into Apple Wallet and get all tickets in the same place instead of having to take photos, download PDFs into temporary notes etc would have a significant positive impact on my day-to-day usage of my iPhone/Apple-Watch.

I suppose if I was going to join in with a bit of negativity I would mention that it amazes me that the core of that functionality (custom passes) wasn't made available in Apple Wallet years ago. Yes, there are workarounds and third party apps but in my opinion it should have been core functionality almost from the outset.

People were probably saying something similar before the launched the ipod, the iphone, or the ipad, airpods, etc.

I remember distinctively people saying tablets were useless and the ipad was dumb because your phone fits in your pocket and there's just no need for a giant phone in addition to your regular sized phone.

And smart glasses are definitely gaining traction. There are a bunch of brands hopping on board and they will continue to grow. Apple releasing some will boost the entire market.
