40 dollars for a upgrade Fee.... AT&T is nuts.

Not only do they only charge 40$,

I went to check and get prepared for the iPhone 6 release online, you know how iPhone 5s is 99$ for a 2 year contract? and i wasn't eligible for an upgrade so shouldn't it be 140$ including the fees? But no i selected the 16GB iPhone 5s and it turned out to be 350$. That's ludicrous. I'd imagined how much it'd cost to buy the iPhone 6. Might as well pay an extra 200 for unlock

uh, because you're probably not eligible for a standard upgrade...

I hate this kind of policy. If you're a nice guy you basically get screwed. But if you whine and bitch and take up the rep's time, you get rewarded. Not right.

Pretty sure the times I've called in I've just asked them to waive the fee, no bitching or whining needed. It sounds like you have that on lock.

I just did the online chat. They offered to waive one of my two fees. I asked to waive both and they did. $80 quick and easy. Also, I was very polite and non-threatening.

That used to work when I called every year to complain about the (first $18, then $36) upgrade fee, but about two years ago, the fight was much harder and they finally relented saying this was a "one time courtesy." Then last year, they wouldn't do it at all. This was a multi line account, always paid on time.

Maybe I should have been ruder, huh.

I would
Like to meet the analyst who came up with the upgrade fee and ask him to explain to me the purpose besides 40*all ATT customers= billions of dollars

That is exactly why analysts, CEO's, Corporations and everyone else lives for - and rightly so. Those who don't have the patience/ skills to negotiate the fee away - get to pay up.

I was also hit with a $30 upgrade fee from Verizon. It bothered me as especially when I had to pay an activation fee whenI got the phone and I thought At least this time I wouldn't be paying the activation fee.

One consolation is that Verizon rolled back my upgrade date by several weeks and allowed me to get in on the pre order so I'm I'm rationalizing the $30 upgrade fee for rolling back my upgrade date.

No problem getting the $40 waived

I just used chat and very easily got the $40 upgrade fee waived. The rep said he needed to explain to me the purpose of the fee and check with his supervisor. I said no problem and that I understood. Because the $40 fee is not yet on my bill, they gave me a credit of $43 and change.

As a point of reference I have been with AT&T forever, generally upgrade every two years, and have never had a problem getting the fee waived

You're suggesting I was rude, which I wasn't

If this fee is such a drag, I'd recommend dropping AT&T.

Because it's not really an issue. Just people who don't know any better commenting on it.
