you can't be serious?Yep I got charged this fee too, but I'm happy to pay it. I figure it's like a donation to the company I love so they can continue cranking out new iPhones in the future.

This fee goes to the carrier, not Apple.Yep I got charged this fee too, but I'm happy to pay it. I figure it's like a donation to the company I love so they can continue cranking out new iPhones in the future.
For those who ordered from Apple, and have unlimited data. I 've confirmed several times with Verizon (but that likely doesn't amount to a hill of beans) that the text about the 40.00 upgrade fee (for those who paid full retail) is just an error with Apple's website. Was told if I am charged the 40.00 to call and they will credit it, even have my account noted twice about it, so we'll see. Wish Verizon had their act together and would have let me select unlimited when I ordered but all it offered was the 2gb and up options (even though Verizon claims that also is an error, on their website, and that unlimited would have stayed).
Yep, I only knew they were different this morning after I saw the updated LTE page. It's kind of funny that last night I thought I was getting band 30 and woke up to find I had CDMA compatibility instead.
Not a typo. I had to call verizon customer service and point out their own upgrade fee policy before they would credit me back the fee. The operator had to go do the research and came back acknowledging she could do the credit. There was no admission of any error on their part. I will watch my bill for the credit. The above quote is from the Apple.com/Verizon Preorder Thread. I can't vouch for the validity, but I'm pretty sure he's right. I will still keep an eye on my bill and contact Verizon if they do charge me the $40 fee, but it makes sense that this is just a typo on the Apple Store.
Can I get some of that kool aid?I see the fee as an investment Into the carriers being able to continue expanding and bettering their service. Pretty much no matter where you go, what carrier, what plan, or how you buy your phone there is a fee. Just the way the industry works these days. Gotta swallow it and move on whether you like it or not. It's not going anywhere lol.
What exactly do we tell them to get the $40 credited back? What is their upgrade fee policy? Not a typo. False statement.Phone contracts are not basically dead because of gimmicks like these. Under no circumstances should anyone sign a contract anymore. You're better off paying the full price of the phone, because getting out from AT&T's grasp is worth it.
Someone must be an att shareholder because that's the only rational reason for liking this.I see the fee as an investment Into the carriers being able to continue expanding and bettering their service. There is no confirmation of T-Mobile not having LTE band 30. Both phones, att and T-Mobile, show (GSM) after purchasing through apple. What updated LTE page are you referring to?Yep, I only knew they were different this morning after I saw the updated LTE page. If the upgrade fee shows up on your bill just call them and remind them of their policies quoted aboveTalked to verizon and they said if paying full price there is no upgrade fee.
The upgrade fee is cause of carrier not apple.

You are absolutely wrong. Several instances have shown here that is not the case.Myself included after comparing the numbers as others have.Phone contracts are not basically dead because of gimmicks like these. Yeah I got charged that fee too. I was super confused at first but I guess it's apart of the tax idk.. it's not cool either way.
I imagine this and the AT&T "upgrade" fees making some news this coming week.![]()

And really this isn't the case. They just use it as extra revenue. I wonder if it may even be material enough to require a separate disclosure on their financials. The way I see it when me or others pay an overpriced cell phone plan to the carrier, we are paying them to expand and provide us with the service they promise to deliver. For us that still have grandfathered plans, we don't get a discount off the plan even though we haven't subsidized in years! So let me go use a bunch of data just for that lol...

I was talking about people who got charged an upgrade fee after pre-ordering at full-price. You must be meaning something else?this was already in the news a couple of weeks ago.....
