If you had to bet one way or the other... when do you think the next iMac update will be?

On a related note -- WHAT do you think the updates will be?

I picked the last option, but given Apple's history it could be much later than that, unfortunately.

I'd say around April. I'd be disappointed if updates to iMac/Mac Mini/iPhone came at Macworld at the expense of something more interesting, such as new Cinema Displays, Mac Pros or MBPs.

I say May ish sounds about good.

I beleive they will have the Mobile Peryn processors. So, Still Dual Core - Still on the "Mobile" Platform like it is currently using.

Also, Im sure the Video Cards will be updated. But to what I dont know.

I think around July is when they'll update it, and then they'll update it with a new design in January.

It will be probably updated in August or even September. I expect a yearly update from those people. I am torn between a next generation iMac and a next generation Mac Pro.

what they ought to do, given the 2009 digital television mandate and the company's apparent strategy to make the imac an all-in-one home entertainment device, is come out with a 30-36" (at least) special imac that includes a blueray dvd drive, ships with wireless keyboard and mouse, and includes a cable BNC input connector. this would provide many of those of us who will be shopping for new televisions in the coming year with a phenomenal living room home entertainment solution. if they came with something in the 30-42" range screen they could make it a bit thicker (and lose the chin beneath the screen, even), and it would rock the home entertainment market like no other. with itunes, apple tv, internet and this thing filling in for the living room tellie, there'd be no stopping it.

i know that in the $1500-2500 price range (or whatever comparably sized high-end LCD/plasma televisions of that size range sell for), i'd order one immediately!

since apple's part of the blueray consortium, it makes sense that the next wave of their computers will have those drives (if they can write, that is).

here's to crossing one's fingers!

Very interesting... Thanks for your input! I really didn't think it would be that far out!

I am in the market for a new iMac, but was hoping to wait for the next revision to come out. I would like a slightly faster processor/graphics card, but I would only like to wait for a couple of months at most. I have a functioning (but 5yr old) iMac which I am using now. It is fine for most things... just not iWeb and other processor intensive programs like that.

The Mac Rumors Buyers Guide seems to think that it is a bit closer than you guys are guessing. It says that the usual upgrades are about 185 days apart, and it has already been 143 since the last iMac upgrade.

Do you guys think I should wait it out, or just give in and get one?

That seems to starkly contrast with the iMac update history, doesn't it? A whole year seems like a very long time to go without a single update.

Intel's release schedule.

But, doesn't this just relate to the "Penryn" part of his quote? Why is "February" the date? Is that the month that Penryn comes out, and if so... what part of that indicates that the iMac will get the updated processor right away?

I hope you are right! I am just saying.

To be honest given Intel's release schedule I can expect to see an update at MacWorld in January.

So, are you indicating that you think Apple will become more like Dell and HP (forgive me) in that they will have updates more frequently, in order to keep up-to-date machines and more directly align with Intel's processor release dates?

Did you notice the iMac Alu was shipping with the 2.8 GHz X7900 around a month before its launch?

January 6th for mobiles.

Great. Thanks. I found that too...

Intel will up the ante again on January 6, 2008 with its new 45nm Penryn-based Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme dual core processors.

It's highly plausible that the chips could make their first appearance at CES 2008 (January 7, 2008) with further unveils at MacWorld 2008 in Apple’s oft-rumored tablet, revamped MacBook Pros or refreshed iMac desktops.

So... why does everybody else seem to think it won't happen for several months? Are they making an analysis based on anything, or is it just a gut reaction? Or maybe they just bought their own iMacs, and don't want the updates to come too fast? ;)

Guys?
