40mm vs 44mm Apple Watch S4 - Which will you get?

It’s a personal thing, but personally I dislike large watches. I had an 42mm S2 SS.
I was planning on an 38mm SS S3 LTE but held off.
I will be getting a 40mm SS but want to see the SS Gold before deciding.
I know gold watches have been around forever but I question how the gold might limit band choices, given all the colours and conflicts with certain ones. I am holding off on on what finish for now, but I am pretty certain I will be going 40mm SS. S

Same here, old timer. Even though I haven't reached your grand old age - I'm 56 - it suits me just fine that Apple are increasing their screen sizes, after all the top Apple staff are ageing too.

Also ordered a Xs Max.

Wish they'd release the 17" MacBook Pro again.

I've preordered the 44mm from EE, I had the 42mm S0 and that was fine and I found the 38mm to be too small.

I have pretty skinny wrists for a bloke but thinking of getting the 44mm Nike with sport band.

Will it look ridiculous and slide about on my arm or should I just go for the 40mm?

That said I tried exact size paper cut outs of the 38 and 42mm AW S3 when I purchased and the 42 looked *very large* however when I tried the actual watch out in the store I felt the 42mm clearly looked better. The 38mm looked small to me. Now of course the 44mm paper cutout looks giant to me but I'm going with the gut that the actual watch will still be reasonable on my wrist, but of course I could always return it and get the 40. Since I ordered my wife the 40 (she currently wears the 38) I'll be able to do a side by side comparison in my home. I still think 44 is the way to go for most men where today the idea of "oversized" watches is very popular even if you have small wrists.

I will be going with the 44mm. I’ll be upgrading from a Series 1 so I’m pretty excited to be able to take it in the pool. It sucks that if you want SS it comes in only LTE. I won’t be need it so aluminum is what I’ll be grabbing.

Thanks mate. I think I’ll take the plunge with the 44 and as you say can always return it if it turns out too big. Would rather have the bigger screen if possible so hopefully it’ll fit ok.

If yours gets delivered anytime soon it would be good to see a side by side with the two watches on your wrist.

The 44mm is literally less than 1/16” larger all around. I don’t know why people are freaking out thinking it’s so much bigger - it’s not.

I preordered the 40 gold SS. I currently have the 38 and love it, I have no regrets about the size. My wrists are small and to me the 42 was just way too big for me. I can’t wait to see in person and compare! But I’m going to unpair my current watch before adding the new one, so I won’t really have a side by side unless I put the 38 back on. Decisions all around!

I ordered the 40 after trying out the 38 in store (too small) and the 42 (good but didn't think I would want to go bigger).

Due to receive the watch on Friday and have a Genius appt scheduled for that day to have them swap out my son's iPhone 6 battery. Figured I would try out the in store 40 and 44 while there and decide.

Question is: if I decide the 44 is a better fit, do you think I will be able to exchange my unopened 40? Looking for basic aluminum model. Or will I need to return the 40 for a refund and get in line for a 44 in another month or so?

Is it worth getting the Apple Watch just to use it as a watch? And I do like to run I currently own a Garmin Forerunner so I guess I could replace that one with the Apple Watch as well. But thats all about it I can see positive about the watch.

Would really love to get some advice.

Karma, if you live near a Apple Store, go try one out to see if you like it. You have 14 days to return it. I mainly
use mine at work, don’t wear a watch at home.

I ordered the 40mm in space black stainless steel. Reason why is that the black matches all my jewelry.
The rose gold that I have now, clashes with my silver jewelry. Otherwise I would have ordered the gold SS.

I used to think the same as you years ago, as back when it had to be paired with an iPhone anyway, there didn't used to be much point. Now that the newer Apple watch models have their own sim and can run independently of an iPhone though, that made them alot more useful!

Anybody use their Apple Watch solely for running? How is the GPS and accuracy of the readings, etc.? And any comment on whether the 44ml size is too big for just running?

I'm considering Series 4 to replace an aging Garmin GPS watch. I'm not an iPhone user so it'd be solely for running and activities.

Seeing this in the app, the 44mm is a bit too big.

I guess it’s going to be difficult deciding without testing it for real in your own wrist. Superimposing the sizes of 42 vs. 44 it doesn’t really look so big. I’m attaching two images I made of the 42 on top of the 44. One aligned to the center and the other to the right bottom side. Decide by yourself how significant that is. Also let’s keep in mind that it will be slimmer and that can have another interesting effect on perception of size.
