Some people, on this thread and others, seem to allude to the possibility that Apple is siphoning off watches that should go to on line orders in order to stockpile them for their stores.
I don't believe that is the case. I consider myself a cautious optimist and in absence of any real evidence believe that Apple will do the right thing. They have in the past.
I look at it this way. Each watch that leaves China is basically a semi-custom made unit. We can see this on this forum; this forum is made up of people tracking the Apple Sport watch with WSB's, others the same watch with BSB's and others with Milanese Loops. There are also threads for every version of SS watches with various bands that you can think of. Some of these watches are very popular and I'm sure extra production facilities are assigned to them to help keep them going out the door, while others that are not so popular (but maybe way more expensive) are not given that extra help. This of course means that the orders of different styles of watches are being filled at different rates. This leads to a bit of frustration when people see that so and so who ordered after them are getting their watches first.
I believe that Apple will, or is, taking advantage of this system so that the watches you first see in stores will not be the most popular styles. This way they can both honor their promise that watches will be in stores while at the same time keep the online orders flowing.
I don't believe that Apple sees the in Store sales as being the bread and butter of their sales for watches or anything else they build. There are simply not enough of their stores in existence and the vast majority of their customer base must order their watches on line. Therefore, it behooves Apple to keep their online customers as happy as those who have the convenience of a local store to go to. I for example live an hour and a half from a store and some people would consider that as being close.
Right now you can go to an Apple store and buy certain watch bands, but not all watch bands. I don't believe you can walk into a store and buy a Milanese Loop band.
The watches when they become available in the stores will, I believe, be the same thing. People who think they will be able to walk into an Apple store in late June and walk out with the most popular style watch will be disappointed, and you will see them complaining on this forum. This will be the proof that my thinking is correct.
